Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 6th November 2023]

That will be because we bought Havertz and not a striker.

Still can't understand how a transfer like that gets sanctioned, when you only have Jesus and Nketiah. They have been better off just getting some more money together and trying to get osimhen or something. Havertz is awful ATM.

No that's never been the rule, it's just a common mistake people make. As I said it's the position of the attacker receiving the ball, not the direction the ball travels that matters. If the attacker is behind play then he can't be offside. The direction the ball travels in makes no difference to an offside decision.

I didn’t think you could be offside for a corner because the ball has to go backward.

That said I’m not sure how a player can take a pass going backwards if they are ahead of play.

If its direct from the corner of course you cant, if its played by someone after then yes you can be offside.

Again its not the direction of the ball but the fact that the attacker cannot be ahead of play from a corner.

Havertz isnt a bad player I think he'd be better playing deeper as his range of passing is really good, just don't see him ever being an assist and goals king

No one questions why some midfielders don't get goals and assists but everyone expects havertz to, I don't know why because he's never been an assists king?

We need to sign Toney in Jan

No fan of either team but watching the highlights.....Havertz barely a yellow imo, was miles away from being dangerous, leg was out to block.

Bruno's was a red every single time, clear malicious attempt to injure someone, head as well, should see a lengthy ban.

I don't know how the quality of refereeing is so consistently poor.

That’s not how it works. The Bournemouth goal vs Man City the winger passed it forward but the goal scorer (sorry I don’t know their names), was BEHIND the person who passed at the moment of the pass, so he was onside. How can he be behind the him and still get the ball? He simply ran forward…

If the person receiving it was ahead of the passer then it needs to have 2 defenders between the last attacker and the goal.

Gordon was ahead of the goalie at that time so that makes him offside if he was ahead of the passer.

We can check whether Gordon was ahead of Joelingtoj easily enough. (He wasn’t).

So on reflection it wasn’t offside.

The only objective thing we could fix out of all this is to have Hawkeye tech on the perimeter of the pitch. The foul itself…you get those one game and you don’t another (I think it was).

Yes, I know this is from an NUFC sub-reddit (but the only place I can find the video to share). But the leading heel does hit longstaff and was about a half second from being a really serious contact. It was a dangerous tackle IMO.

On balance it would have done more damage than Bruno's forearm had he even made contact with the elbow.

Both still should have seen red.

I see arsenal have put a statement backing artetas little hissy fit, that trains long gone lads should have backed Jurgen/liverpool instead of taking the ****.

Im not sure what they are complaining about. The goal is still being argued for and against now so you go with "umpires call" for it really. I personally think its offside but if they dont have a correct image then they cant call it.

Both should have been down to 10 and both missing 3 games...maybe thats what hes fuming about? He now has to pick Havertz.
