Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9th - 10th December 2023]

You’re right, it’s horrific. It’s like they cant be bothered to referee games properly anymore as they have VAR to supposedly keep them right.
They dont make a decision because they expect VAR to bail them out. Instead of just coming to the correct decision its all "clear and obvious" which i swear the majority dont fully understand. The game earlier, Anderson, I believe it was, had a chance briliantly turned away for a corner by Alisson but he was a yard offside. How can we get to a point where Alisson would have been better off conceding and having a goal overturned?

Lmao Martinez.

yeah, it’s about time we realised that onfield refe should be there for expediency and subjective calls and the var‘s job is to correct them when they’re objectively incorrect. That should be for any call, at any point in the match. Including fouls, yellows, line calls end offsides.

They’re two different specialisms and shouldn’t be done by the same people. Really, better if they don’t even know each other.

we‘d need to break up the cosy refs club to do that though.

They are usually pretty good when it comes to offsides, the lad was a good yard, maybe more earlier but his flag doesnt go up. Had they scored I bet it does but instead it went for a corner. They checked for a pen in that very same move aswell.

I agree, we have all been on the end of good and bad VAR decisions, but when you get things like that happen you would be apocalyptically angry if palace had scored from that corner, that they shouldn’t have had because it was originally offside.
I do believe VAR can work but it needs **** load of tweaking, I would start with having Permanent VAR official's, maybe 5 in total that look at all matches simultaneously(instead of chopping and changing for every game), I would also have ex professionals and independent PL/FA staff working with the VAR officials and when looking at an incident they all have to agree that there was an error.
