Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9th - 10th November 2024]

How much better would you say this performance has been than most this season under Ten Hag?
Not at all really. We're defensively more solid I think but create less. Ruud has been very lucky with the wonder goals, Casemiro in the cup, Garnacho today, Amad on Thursday. Feels like we haven't had any of those this season.

I would disagree. Well, in this game. I have posted recently saying that Ruud hasn't really improved us at all in his brief time but I think today has been a marked improvement. Better effort levels. Faster passing. Defensively stable for the most part. Not amazing but better.

Can’t wait for this one

It's tough to say with such a small sample size of games. Ruud has just been luckier imo. For example in our last two Europa games we had the same xG (1.1) and the same xG against (1.3) Ruud gets a 2-0 win and ETH got a 1-1 draw. and ETH was against a tougher team.

I agree it's difficult to say, but I do think there's been a small improvement and that's helped in terms of the luck element, if that's the right word... the team haven't had sudden dips in intensity like they did under ETH.

You can't argue with 3 wins and a draw out of 4 games, with the draw being against a strong side in good form.

Even today, we scored 3 goals from 0.81 xG according to xGphilosophy. Our luck really seems to have come around, long shots are suddenly going in, opponents are scoring own goals etc. None of it is Ruud's system creating chances. How different would the second half have been if Bruno hadn't scored a long range shot and we hadn't got an OG and went in at 0-0 at half time? Because that seemed to happened several times under ETH, against West Ham for example and it gave the opposition belief.

Ange is going to need a cup this season or his job is going to be under serious pressure. No amount of attacking football nor ending every sentence with 'mate' is going to make up for this level of inconsistency.

Yes, it's not his system, but there's the mental side of things too. Perhaps he's lifted some pressure.

I don't think that brand of football is sustainable really.

Tbf I don't think it's a style of play issue. They're just really inconsistent. A Spurs fan I follow on twitter just summed it up when he said that at their best this is the best Spurs side in 5 or so years but at their worst they're also the worst Spurs side in that period. Their just doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground for them lately.
He always wins a trophy in his second season. :p
Yea, that comment didn't do him any favours.
