Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9th - 10th November 2024]

If we can all see it, then surely the manager can see this though, so there must be a reason why he keeps playing that way.

Oh i'm sure there is a reason and I doubt that the manager is saying "don't you worry about tracking back or working for the team lad".

Hes an example of why United have been in such a mess the past decade. When hes good, hes very good but hes not good most of the time. When you are a team struggling though and have players that can change games on their own, how do you bench them.

Pogba was the same. Occasionally world class and unplayable but unbelievable frustrating and 4/10 most of the time.

In any sort of good team he would be a super sub or gone.

That was a lovely pass from Ugarte.

INEOS, Brailsford and co. come from a pro cycling background. If you aren't performing then you are gone. If you aren't even trying then forget about it.
I don't think you can compare cycling to football. You can't just bin off one of your only saleable assets who is on a massive contract unless someone buys him.

You can't do that in cycling either...they have contracts. But they don't suffer laziness. And yes, you do bin off one of your saleable assets if he is awful value for money. They will be doing the maths at the moment. They will probably have to sell him quite cheaply to compensate for his silly wages but what is the benefit of keeping him on the books getting paid that money when he so rarely justifies it.

Its bad for the team having players who don't give a crap on massive salaries as well.

Hmm, not sure thats going to be a good thing. Casemiro has been good today and put in a lot of tackles. Eriksen isn't entirely as sturdy in that position.

If you consider the example of Grealish going to City it provides an interesting contrast in how to handle a player who has a high profile. It doesn't bother Pep one jot that they paid £100m for Grealish or what he did at Villa. He basically said - you play the way I want you to play or you don't play. Arguably he's neutered Grealish but he made him a better asset for the team? United haven't either had the backing for the manager or the squad depth to make that sort of selection call.

Conditions seem to have played a part today. It's been sloppy this half but at least we have had a degree of control.

It's a little early i think to be making assumptions on what they are going to do. Let's see how they operate after a couple of windows.

Of course we have, see Antony on the pitch? Ronaldo? Sancho?
