Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [10th - 14th January 2014]

but that doesn't mean everything he's done so far has been fine, it hasn't. It's unfair to say I've given up when I haven't, but I'm obviously concerned, much of his approach seems quite strange.

I'm sure I remember reading you more than once say there's nothing positive in him being manager right now? That doesn't sound very supporting to me.

I'm not saying your reasons are wrong but I think personally he will be gone at the end of the season. Then you will enter a period of eating through a few managers and spending money on their players each year.

I said a while ago that if you list the good and the bad, the latter outweighs the former. I also said he's not entirely to blame for some of those issues and the fact he's been without RvP and Rooney hasn't helped. If that was the case for SAF last season he probably wouldn't have won the league.

I do want him to do well and prove everyone wrong, I think adding RvP and Rooney to the team that played today means we can field a side capable of beating everyone bar Chelsea and City, which is good news. The club needs to back him with some real investment though too.

It reminds me of when Peter Schmiechel quit and you ate through perfectly good keepers because they just weren't as good as one of the best there has ever been.

I think you will do the same with managers for a period of time.

Moyes = Massimo Taibi in that case ;)

I'm not sure. It really depends what the Glazers think, obviously Fergie was never in danger of being sacked since they've had the club but they've never had a manager under pressure like this.

Who we buy in the summer will define Moyes' supposed 'transition', if they aren't happy to back him with the big money then he's effectively being hung out to dry and that'll finish him off.

It would be nice if he did something this month too. We aren't that far away from the top 4 considering we have RvP and Rooney to come back soon.

As I said in the transfer thread I just don't think the quality of players that United require and should be buying will be available in January and after Fellaini you don't need a panic buy. I feel if you buy Baines that's what it will be.

Lol kagawa. Couldn't finish his tea this lad.

He did well aside from that, as soon as he was put in his proper position. Not sure why I'm telling you that though.

It depends entirely on who those players are though, if we're not in the Champions League I can't see us popping out and buying Vidal for £50m, even if we offered him a fortune.

What's more important to you? Your team doing well or your team doing poorly so you can say I told you so?

Why is this a question? :p

There's a lot of talk about how Moyes has a long contract, as though that improves his chances of staying on... but would people be surprised if there was a performance related break clause? Eg. If he chokes and doesn't make top four then he's only due one year's pay on dismissal, or something. I've no idea if that's the norm, but it wouldn't surprise me.

There absolutely will be a clause like that, something that enables them to get rid of him if needed. The 6 year thing is a statement of intent to keep him and give him time, but in reality I expect they'll want to see things on the up within 18 months or so. A year from now is when we'll have a true idea of whether he's up to the job or not. Four years of struggling to make top four isn't something the owners will tolerate, not even close.

Not making the top four is interesting, I think we should do it with RvP and Rooney fit, but it's far from assured at present. Will they sack him over it? I doubt it.

What sort of player is Zaha? Pretty skillful? I'm still wondering why he doesn't play? Iirc he's a lefty but surely he offers more than Valencia does? Why not give him say the last 20 mins of a match?

With him not given a chance and also Kagawa played out of position I'm wondering what's going on.

I only watched the first half today and we were dire, utterly clueless! Swansea were pulling us apart as you would on Fifa!
