Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [10th - 14th January 2014]

LB (because Evra is too busy attacking to get back amd defend) and central midfield without a doubt

Then it should be between another wide player, and a centre half

Our defence is questionable all over for various reasons aside from the GK.

Evra can't defend.
Rafael is very injury prone.
Vidic is ok but getting on a bit.
Evans doesn't seem to be playing well.
Smalling can be a headless chicken at times but is usually ok at CB where he's meant to play.
Jones seems solid and has quite a lot of promise too but should be playing CB from now on and nowhere else.
Ferdinand is more interested in selling #5 caps and his other crappy merchandise than playing well.
Buttner is an average winger who someone stupidly decided can play LB.
Fabio didn't do himself any favours lately and is just a worse version of Rafael it seems.

We're meant to have a really good under 21 team aren't we? Why not try out some of those guys at the full back positions at least. Then we can look to buy someone - bit late now though.

Midfield is obviously a weak point, but Fletcher and Carrick are experienced and if nothing else, usually quite confident and can cover the defence and recycle possession.

I think we can all accept that our wingers are poor, all of them, for one reason or another. So why play them? You can play 3 central attacking midfielders, or 2 wide playmakers - like City used to/do with Silva and Nasri - so why must we force them all out wide?

What would be wrong with (assuming everyone is fit soon):

-----------Fletcher - Carrick-----------
----- Kagawa - Rooney - Januzaj ----
-------------- van Persie --------------

The full backs obviously have to be careful here, but we wouldn't be reliant on them going forward if we could field both Kagawa and Januzaj either side of Rooney. It can be done.

If we want to play with wingers, we need at least two new ones, and to play 442 or similar you've really got to have quality central midfielders, not Carrick and Fletcher. They aren't Yaya Toure and Fernandinho.

who u playing next week?

Chelsea (away).

I do wonder if Evra's weakness is partly because of how much pressure is placed on him (and Rafael) to attack. Rafael was 50% of our attacking threat in the first half pretty much, Valencia was useless. If they had better wide players in front of them it would help.

Really, you think he'll get sacked that quickly?

Yep, only have to look at yourself and how quickly you went from:

He needs more time, squad is a mess to there are no positives at all about him and his team and set up.

I think there will be too much pressure to get rid of him. Gimp is the only person on here (united fan) that's seems to have seen this will take time. Plenty of others started from that point but seem to have given up already.

I think far too many fans have been spoilt by the success, a period of Arsenal type success the last 8 years might buck them up a bit.

I support him and I do think it will take time, but that doesn't mean everything he's done so far has been fine, it hasn't. It's unfair to say I've given up when I haven't, but I'm obviously concerned, much of his approach seems quite strange.

I want nothing more than him to do well and prove everyone wrong.

If Moyes noticed that Janusaj is great with Vidic on the left and Kagawa is really quite good behind the striker, he could actually field quite an attractive team when Rooney and RVP are back.

I thought Kagawa was excellent in the second half and found so much space in dangerous areas. Hopefully Moyes realised where he should be playing.
