Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [11th - 16th September 2015]

I can't remember a better overhead goal in the PL. It was very clean and perfectly timed with loads of power (rather than just directing it).

Great for Martial to score a decent goal on his debut.

The better leaders are the better leaders. I remember someone coming from a rival team to my uni American football team, but he was very good/had the right attitude/was a leader/etc, so he was one of the captains. I went abroad for a year and came back and my coach asked me about doing it even though I hadn't met half the players because of the turnover you get with uni sports, etc.

Personality >>>>>>>>>>>> length of service.

Milner has no personality though?

Milner and Can were the only ones showing any fight.

Yet absolutely none of the rest of the team did, and over the game they team didn't get themselves in to it. The only reason Liverpool had spells looking like scoring, first spell was a De Gea mistake led to a couple corners and a bit of pressure. then after the second goal and a couple subs Utd just sat back and asked for it.

It's not about showing fight, it's about the ability to inspire others to show their fight... on that side it was a failure. It's not like a captain will always inspire that regardless of who they are. But this performance was terrible, Milner played a bit headless chicken mode, giving it away fouling, generally very very poor.

They were the only 2 looking to press and close down Utd. Nobody else showed anything.

Neither were 'pressing' very well, there was no difference between any of the 3 MF's they were all rather invisible. Milner as the captain should be the one to stand up and be counted, he has done the grand total of f all the past 2 games

Pressing only works if you do it as a team. We didn't do that though. And not being the captain is a lame excuse for not standing up and being counted but I'm guessing you'd rather scapegoat him.
Yet absolutely none of the rest of the team did....

Which was our problem. We weren't playing well enough to dominate the game with the ball so we had to get about Utd and pressure them into mistakes.

Although undoubtedly a mistake by De Gea, the whole incident starts from a little bit of effort and closing down from us. We done none of the above though, there was no real sustained pressing nor did we try or were able to string 2 passes together.

Was one of Berbatov's goals in his hat-trick against Liverpool an overhead kick? I think both being part of a hat-trick, winning the game and being so inch perfect made that one better.

found a video, yup second goal was fantastic.

Blind is an intelligent cb. He's not letting himself down at the moment and Smalling can cover for a lot of the physical aspects.

He was found out vs Swansea last PL fixture - and no disrespect to them at all but they aren't exactly a leading side.

He is doing a job for his manager/ his side, and I'm not knocking him - but it was a blatant hole in the squad that was ignored during the window, he shouldn't even be a choice in that position

Watching Rooney's again, that was pretty good. I don't know now. Rooney's was much harder to time coming from a cross going across the body.

It's good but looks so awkward and a bit clumsy.
