Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [11th - 16th September 2015]

We threw a 32 million plus fee at Benteke to land him & we're paying him 140k a week by all accounts, 150k to Milner. Our wage bill is in the top 10 in European football, lets not act like we're paupers. We should be getting more than we are seeing. Another manager would get so much more out of the squad/have a better squad for the money, and play decent football to boot.

I look forward to comfortably getting top four with our new manager then :)

Also I wouldn't expect that many to be above us

city
chelsea
manu
barca
real
bayern?
psg
monaco
arsenal?

I mean of course we are pretty well off and spoilt really in the grand scheme of things but we aren't going to topple anyone in our league

Monaco arent above us are they? They've shifted the big earners out. Rodgers wont be going anywhere this season, he shifted all the blame onto Marsh/Pascoe and the TC in the summer.

Its not just the League position that is of a massive concern (I notice not many people bleat on about 'par' anymore seeing as Rodgers has only hit that once in 3 seasons), its losing to European powerhouses like Zenit, and drawing with Ludogorets for example.

Anyway, the **** we find ourselves in now is a payback of kinds for those that wanted Rafa out, and rejoiced in his sacking.

Klopp wanted Benteke for Dortmund two years ago and Ferminho last year

No idea if they are, it was just a guess and not many will be due to the money in the english game.

What is this 'par' thing? Yep European performances are incredibly embarrassing, the only good one was when we went out vs Zenit in his first year :( (Thanks Carra)

Can fully agree with that, will never love a manager more than Rafa and sacking him was one of the worst days ever =/

Rafa looked ill towards the end of his Liverpool career. The cancers took a lot out of him and I don't think staying any longer would've done him any good at all.

Forgot about that, looks much healthier now :(

He could've turned it around I think though, maybe not with the morons who were advising FSG though.

You two are desperate :D, would be great if he came here and did well but just don't see it happening :(

Wage bill equating league position - we have the 5th largest wage bill so we should be 5th - Tomkins thing initially.

I just want a young, charismatic manager that knows how he wants his team to play and has the respect of the squad, not someone that is morphing into Roy ****ing Hodgson.

Ah right, I'm not so arsed about position at the moment, I mean fifth is probably about right, especially if manu had a decent manager but yeah the football is so horrendous its just not fun to bother turning up to watch the game.

He isn't anywhere near that bad, blaming players outright, no encouragement, not defending our players or saying the fans aren't helping but things are very grim sadly as much as I want him to do well.

Would you swap those ideals for a manager who just tries to win, at all costs?

No I dont want Jose :p

In all seriousness, to win the league (if you arent Man City/Chelsea) you will essentially need a player to be on a level similar to Messi or Ronaldo - Saurez was the best in the world in the 13/14 season which is why he dragged us to a whisker of winning it. We will not have a player of a similar ilk whilst Rodgers is at the club as his ability to spot a player is probably the worst in the league.

He isnt far off though Purdy, take his comments today about the loss. Very Hodgson esque

Who spotted and brought Suarez to Liverpool?, that's who should be Liverpool manager.

The gap is getting bigger too suddenly Chelsea, City have squad that glitter and United are amassing players like De Gea Shaw Martial Depay Janujaz Pereria who all have at least ten years in them.
.

I would love to believe otherwise, but majority of those names still have a lot to prove (and both Schneiderlin and Darmian could have 5+ years ahead of them)

Don't get me wrong, certainly promising at the very least but the only nailed on star is De Gea (and he still has a ? over his head regarding RM even if he costs them a lot of money at some point)

After Young's general performance this week, I think it might be worth taking Depay out of the firing line for a few EPL weeks - I think its crazy to be starting him this quickly for such an inexperienced player. By all means start him in the CL to see how he does in Europe but imo he shouldn't be starting in the EPL

Its still a massive concern that Utd haven't scored from open play at home this season ( it could be debated whether Martial's was fluke/ a defensive mistake or what ever else, he took it well but he cant be relied upon for goals just yet at his age/experience) - that's after 270+ minutes facing Spurs, Liverpool and Newcastle....at least two of which are likely to be directly competing with Utd for top 4/5 /6 positions most likely

Fabulous three points - but season has barely started

Actually we are in the best shape out of most of the European teams with regards to attacking trios getting Depay and Martial was a real coup and a year ago everyone wanted Janujaz. That is not even our front line at the minute as you said it is Young Rooney Mata those lads are the future 3 though.

Thats the gulf between the two now in terms of quality i like Benteke actually and firmino Coutinho Skrytl Mingolet Clyne Ibe are good but the rest are and have been a waste of $$$. Although in saying that about Clyne too i wanted United to sign him but today he was lost at times where as Darmian is a beast.
