Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12 - 16th January 2013]

United just decided to grind out the end of that game. Johnson should've gone for the rugby tackle though which would've made it easier.

Valencia fouled him before the tap tackle, had Valencia not pulled him back to get past I'd agree though, silly from Johnson to even do it, he was covered.

Thankfully not filled with controversy, a lucky deflected goal to win it, can't be too disappointed considering should've been 4-0 at half time, if Rooney was on we would've been tanked with Allen on.

Man United 2-1 Liverpool FT

United were the better team in the first half but we were the better in the second. Could've easily ended up with a draw with the chances we had but don't think you can begrudge United the win.

Thought Sturridge looked very bright when he came on and Wisdom had a good game but we were lucky to finish the game with 11 men.

As I said a few weeks ago, we're not competing with the United's of the world at the moment so this game will mean little in the grand scheme of things. It's the games against the teams around us that'll decide where we finish this season but we can be proud of the team today.

Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Diaby, Wilshere, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Podolski, Walcott.

Subs: Mannone, Mertesacker, Andre Santos, Giroud, Ramsey, Coquelin, Jenkinson.

Man City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy, Javi Garcia, Barry, Milner, Silva, Tevez, Dzeko.

Subs: Pantilimon, Lescott, Sinclair, Kolarov, Suarez, Rekik, Balotelli.

If you play like you did in the 1st half, you will get slaughtered.........if you play more like the 2nd, you wont have any trouble at all.

Sturridge looks like he could be a really good signing for you - your team just has to hope his ego doesnt get too much to cope with (what R5L were saying before the match, his ego is the biggest problem - thinking he has already made it etc etc etc)

We've only played that bad against West Brom in the first game of the season and Swansea in the Carling Cup. Majority of games we've matched or outplayed our opposition only for our finishing or individual errors at the back to let us down, the 1-3 loss to Villa at home and the 2-2 against City highlighting those traits more than any other games.

I heard before today's match that LS has had about 120 shots this season, so the supply is certainly there

Maybe with another striker playing with him (as long as Sturridge isnt selfish) the ratio of shots to goals should improve drasticaly.

We create the third most chances out of top 5 leagues in europes, or have most shots can't remember. Guessing Barca+Someone is first.

Second worst conversion rate.

Supply is there to win the league, finishing ability is not.

As much as i miss Sturridge at Chelsea, to be honest you are getting another great creator but greater misser of good chances.

Just getting someone alongside Suarez to help with attacks and get in the box will help us no end. His finishing doesn't necessarily have to be top notch for him to make a huge different to our results.

:o

Doesnt surprise me in the slightest

Totally agree

Im actually very glad Utd dont have to face the two of them (in the EPL) after they have had some time to get to know each other

West Ham at home in the replay on Wednesday (which we could really do without especially with Vidic and Young being injured today, surely both out for a week or so at least) before Spurs away a week today which could be a real problem for Utd's defence :(

We didn't turn up for the first 60 mins or so and it cost us the game. Both goals we conceded were stupidly sloppy goals to concede; Downing shouldn't have got pulled inside to allow Evra the space he had for the first and we were all over the place for the 2nd, not knowing whether we were setting up for a shot or a cross and doing neither.

Sturridge made a big difference when he came on and with a bit of luck with the break of the ball in their area, we could have pinched a draw.

Not sure how Johnson didn't get a 2nd booking; there's occasions where officials make decisions that nobody understands and that's one - Johnson's just rugby tackled Valencia, it was as obvious a 2nd booking as you could see.

I wasn't pleasantly surprised with the lineup this week BaZ. Obvious Henderson's just been dropped again despite playing very well. Concerned Rodgers has already got his undroppables in the team.
