Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12 - 16th January 2013]

Goal scoring opportunity so he had to go.

Mike dean has finally made a stand against those stupid pulling and tugging.

The time to do it though isn't 8 minutes into a match halfway through the season. It's something that should have been done from the very first game.

I wasn't pleasantly surprised with the lineup this week BaZ. Obvious Henderson's just been dropped again despite playing very well. Concerned Rodgers has already got his undroppables in the team.

Considering that Allen's missed a few games of late, I don't think he's undroppable.

I'd have gone with Henderson today and he'd have been the player I'd have first brought at HT but depsite him playing well, I think it's clear thar Rodgers doesn't fancy him and/or doesn't see how he fits into where we're trying to go. I mentioned the other week that right now we're better with 2 players holding and 1 pushed forward but ultimately we're aiming for the reverse. Similarly right now we need Henderson's energy in the side to make-up for our inabiltiy to keep the ball as well as we'd like but ultimately he's not the profile of player that will make up our 3 man midfield.

edit: It will be interesting to see how we line-up going forward though. Sturridge and Suarez linked up really well in the 2nd half and if we do try to fit them both in centrally in some kind of 4-2-3-1 then our midfield 2 is going to be fun. Gerrard in a 2 has always been an issue but with his legs going, it's only going to be a bigger issue. With that in mind and assuming Gerrard's still going to play more often than not, Henderson alongside him is probably our best bet. Allen isn't physically capable to do Gerrard's running and Lucas still isn't fully fit.

I am thinking he would have got to that ball.

I agree that's how it should be, but that's not following the rules as they stand. The red's a correct decision, even though I agree with you about it killing the game (bar a miracle) etc.

Agree on the letter of the law, but Mike Dean should be sensible and realise the effect of a red like that.

Said it a long time ago, a Penalty and a Red is overkill, crappy nothing fouls such as tugging and grabbing shouldn't be reds no matter the decision, that's what yellows are for, when you're a multiple offender of crappy jiggly fouls. straight reds belong to dangerous play and clear on goal outside of the box.

It's just sensible to work it that way.
