Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 15th January 2017]

**** off :p

I had it as 6 draws and 5 wins then I remembered we beat Chelsea last season. And I've just realised it's actually 13 games, 1 loss, 6 draws and 6 wins.

That is pretty good to be fair. If only we could not bottle it against Burnley, Bournemouth and Sunderland that would be sweet

I don't think there was a red card in that game personally.

Rooney - going to block the ball, foot is up but I don't believe he's gone to do him. It happens all the time with clearances. Yellow.

Pogba - ridiculous reaction from him, but I don't see that as a red. Yellow.

Firminho - obvious reaction, and a yellow.

Lovren yellow card - was a good challenge, wasn't even a foul let alone a yellow.

'We attacked, Liverpool defended, lets see if the critics are fair'

Liverpool shots - 13
manu shots - 9

At least he is a good laugh

Honestly I don't see how locking your arm around someone's neck and slamming them to the ground is anything but a red

That sort of wrestling goes on all the time, sure he was a bit more aggressive with it but that's not a red card for me.

Doesn't really matter, he has done him. I don't for one minute think he's gone to take Milner out but he has, it was dangerous and therefore its a red.

"Oh Rooney just went to block the back but snapped the lad in half" isn't a reason not to give the card.

Pogba's was an arm around the neck, that alone is a red but off the ball its violent conduct. He should be looking at ban for that.

Pretty good? It's insane.

Our issue isn't playing against Burnley etc but our lack of depth in the squad. Our first choice front 6 is incredible but 1 injury and we have to completely change how we play.

Contact is part of the game, it happens. There'd be red cards left, right and centre if you started sending people off for catching people on clearances and the likes. Virtually every slide tackle is dangerous when contact has been made after the ball, should we be sending people off for those as well?

He will not get a ban for that, no chance in hell.

Hes trying to block the ball after milner has hit it. Milner misses and Rooney contacts him instead.

Exactly what's rooney supposed to do with his foot once he's commited, hop? It's not like Milner had his foot anywhere near the ball. They both misjudged it, nothing more. Rooney apologised because Milner got hurt not because of intent.

Contact is part of the game makes leg breakers ok ?

ok

Leg breaker?

He hasn't come over the ball, he hasn't gone in two footed, he's not gone in at 100mph. It's a late challenge, nothing more, nothing less.

Literally the only people crying about this are Liverpool fans, did the pundits talk about it after the game? I'd hazard a guess not, because it was a non event bar the yellow.

A dramatically slowed down footage where it looks like he has all the time in the world to think about where he puts his foot. Where as Milner comes across him not the other way around.

You love a good overreaction.

If a player goes to kick the ball and another player is near, they stick their boot out to block it. Is it a red if the player kicking the ball then follows through and kicks that foot? I reckon that bloody hurts but its not a red.

If Milner got the ball there Rooney wouldn't have made any contact. Both players missed the ball and happened to end up with their feet in the same place afterwards. Its a yellow.

There has been no complaining about it from anyone else apart from the Liverpool fans on here who are being ridiculous.

Neville did. I'm pretty sure he's not a Liverpool fan.

He said it was a bad challenge, can't say I disagree, hence why he got a yellow card (I think?).

If it was a contentious decision the pundits would've been all over it. Especially when you've got Carragher and Souness in the studio.

Hell, Klopp didn't even complain about it and he was up in arms when it happened.

The Rooney tackle on Milner was an ankle breaker, it might not have been intentional but you basically had Rooney's full weight going into Milner's ankle. Rooney apologised right away he knew it was bad.

apart from the fact he made contact with his foot not his ankle

It was bad, but it also wasn't intentional / out of control - only slightly late

I thought it was a shame that Firmino even had to be booked

Firmino deserved to be booked - although was never a red

Herrera took one for the team with pulling his shirt , but also got the yellow that was deserved (I actually thought Firmino had been booked much earlier in the game but must have been mistaken)

I can't remember what Neville said word for word but the tone was that Rooney was lucky not to be sent off. Bad challenges aren't yellow cards.

I can't recall Klopp ever making a fuss out of things in his interviews. IIRC he didn't say much, despite being asked, about Barkley's challenge the other week. The pundits barely said anything about Utd's goal being offside either, doesn't mean it wasn't.

Of course they can be, a bad challenge is a bad challenge, it doesn't automatically make it a red card.

lol @ Lovren not wanting to take the MOTM trophy :p

From the angle originally shown it looked like rooney stepped fully on Milner's boot , that vine makes it more clear, but would still say there is a lot more pressure on the booted foot than the initial contact with the ankle (while it may hurt, I doubt that would injur any player - the follow through onto the boot is more likely to leave an injury)

Not sure the result actually helps anyone - but hopefully Utd can still be solidly in the top 4 before they meet City at the end of Feb

How do you describe red card challenges then?

As I mentioned already, a challenge is a red card if you're risking serious injury. There doesn't need to be intent, despite what some people want to think. Rooney's gone over the ball and his full weight has gone studs first, down onto Milner's ankle. He could have easily injured him and it should have been a red.
