Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 15th August 2011]

Stoke really dangerous at the moment, and Chelsea look a little shaky. It seems that Torres is playing a lot more confidently/solidly than last season, although we'll see if that's enough throughout the season.

I know it's early, but I can't see Chelsea really challenging for the title if they continue like this.

Think this chelsea squad has ran its course, doesn't seem like any of them can develop further and those that have been good like lampard have gone over the hill. Not been enough youth blended in over the past few seasons to enable transition.

Pretty much. Lampard seems to be anonymous these days. I don't see him doing anything 'special', Malouda seems to have lost his pace/ability.

Woeful. :(

Really like how AVB comes across, wears his passion on his sleeve, and is alwaysout in the technical area, needs to invest in the squad though, need a neymar and a nasri in there to add guile, kalou is rubbish, always has been, he hasn't gotten any better over the years

Terry got schooled a few minutes ago, good and proper.

Also; don't like how Chelsea's Cole got away with that shove off the ball.

Stoke are being typical Stoke, hoof and physical football. Horrible. When they try and pass it they fail.

. Are you stupid, thats not an insult, I'm genuinely asking, your first two sentences completely contradict each other. YOu can't just kill someone if he's trying to kill you..... unless you know he's trying to kill you. Yeah, well done, my point was, which you quoted, if someone is trying to kill you, killing someone in self defence won't be seen as murder. Self defence is taken into account, reasonable force. If someone tries to beat you up, defending yourself is perfectly fine. Barton attacked Gervinho, but the rules don't allow any form of defending yourself, without punishment.

Its never made any sense.

Arsenal should be ashamed of themselves...... because Ramsey LOOKED at the referee? Can you hear yourself, really?

Krul, Taylor, the other Taylor and at least one other Newcastle player all told the ref Gervinho had either elbowed or punched Barton. Barton pretended he was shot(for the 3rd time in the match IIRC), half the Newcastle team were asking for Gervinho to be sent off, fair enough, I don't really care, I've never once heard a logical reason that a player shouldn't be allowed to ask the ref if a player doesn't deserve a card of some kind. Its okay for english players to ask it and talk to the ref, but if a player uses short hand and waves the card, with the exact same intent and reasoning, its somehow evil, and ruining the game.

But Arsenal should be ashamed of themselves because Ramsey looked at the ref.

Neither team behaved well yesterday, Barton, Song, Gervinho in particular should all be pretty ashamed of themselves, Stephen Taylor for being a lying twit should aswell, can't think of any other Newcastle or Arsenal players who did anything wrong.

My point with Ramsey was he dived and stayed on the floor making the most of it looking at the ref (as in watching until he produced a card) and as soon as he did he was back up on his feet. The point im making is he dived making the foul look worse and then instead of getting straight back up he waited on the floor until the card was produced. Unsporting.

Barton went down 3 times yes, one he was blocked. Straight back up. Two was the stamp by song which was a ****ing disgrace which he still got back up afterwards and the 3rd was the slap which I will admit he went down too softly but a raised hand to the face is a still a sending off, even if he did make the most of it.

They all told the ref did they? You personally heard them because they were right in front and all I could here was fans shouting OFF, OFF, OFF. S.Taylor went to the linesman and pointed to the ref telling to tell him what happened. Didnt make any gestures towards him so say what had actually happened.

Sagna was just as bad too. numerous occasions he went down with out being touched. He got "clipped" took another 4 steps before deciding to just go down. It wasnt as if he stumbled and tried to stay on his feet. He actually just decided to fall because nothing was on. He had the ball and turned his back on Jonas and realised he was in trouble, Jonas didnt even touch him and he fell like someone had shot him with a sniper. I havent seen Wengers interview but I heard he criticised Barton. Let me guess though when asked about Gervinho's slap did he answer "I didnt see it" and with songs stamp "I did not see it"

Its the same old **** with arsenal every year. He criticises players going in hard on his players but as soon as one of his players does something he "didnt see it".

lol what? Stoke have been great, their crossing has been brilliant, through balls just been a bit misplaced at times. Set pieces are immense as well especially their corner tactics. Played a lot more football than Chelsea have managed to.
