Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 17th September 2014]

So if Utd can beat QPR, having failed to beat Swansea, Sunderland, Burnley and MK Dons, they'll still be behind Arsenal, Liverpool, City and Chelsea? Not bad.

Compared to 2nd last season being beaten at home by 15th

Most impartial viewers would find that much funnier

I completely fogot Liverpool are lighting up the league..........

Jesus, I almost never watch MOTD, hyping up Sanchez performance because he did a bit of tracking back. Make no mistake, I appreciate it but the offensive parts of his game were awful and he constantly gave the ball away. They praised him for holding off Kompany in central midfield.... even though Kompany was out of position, City were vulnerable to a counter attack, there was a painfully easy pass on directly infront of him. He could have passed that wide and then run towards the box where he'd easily beat Kompany to the box. Instead he held it, and held it, then lost it. All but his finish was praised offensively when the majority of those things they were praising involved Sanchez holding the ball too long and losing it.

What I hate about pundits and highlights, show a couple good bits and none of the bad bits(not in this situation) and you can give completely the wrong impression of a player, likewise you can have them talking over highlights which show Sanchez losing the ball over and over again but ignoring it and calling it brilliant.

The finish was great, everything else he did was pretty much rubbish. He looks effective and exciting because he'll turn a player and run around another one, but then he'll ignore a pass and lose the ball or eventually make the pass but screw it up. He messed up the massive majority of stuff he tried today.

I'm happy with his work rate and enthusiasm, but he's at his best when he's passing quickly and then running ahead into dangerous positions. When he holds on to the ball basically nothing has worked, so he needs to stop doing it.

Shearer did manage to point out the woeful fullback positioning and how it hurt us but missed out a key point. Monreal spent the entire game bombing forwards well beyond the ball... despite rarely ever getting the ball down the wing and being poor when he does get it. Almost every other fullback will not run beyond the ball, a little but not far. The liverpool replay from last year showed him pretty much running 30 yards past the ball and even when clear it wasn't coming to him he kept going rather than turning back. In almost every other team the fullback would stop around the level of the player with the ball and ready to get back.

Our fullbacks aren't used much, don't deliver many balls, we play narrow and inside. There is absolutely no need for our fullbacks to get anywhere near as far forward as they do to begin with. How many years will we have fullbacks bombing forward while providing incredibly little attacking quality but costing us defensively every damn game.
