Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14 - 15th December 2013]

Huge win for us and probably our best performance since Rodgers took over. Prior to today we hadn't won a game away to any of the big sides under Rodgers and with City and Chelsea coming up, we needed a result today to cement our place towards the top of the table.

Going into the game I was a bit worried about how our lightweight midfield would hold up against Spurs power but Allen and Henderson in particular dominated Spurs midfield, with Lucas mopping up anything that got past them.

As well as Allen & Henderson (and Suarez of course), Sterling deserves a mention. He bossed Naughton in the first half and was a real threat all game which he's not been for some time.

We've won 5-0 despite missing chance after chance both before and after the red card
Great half and rather unsurprisingly the strongest our midfield has looked all season. What we lose from Gerrards passing and set piece ability we gain in movement and pace and his absence has helped the whole team today because we're playing as a team rather than through him. Won't be a popular opinion but it's true.

As a 3, Lucas sitting with Allen and Henderson ahead is more balanced and suited to playing a 4-3-3 but there's still a question mark over the attacking threat from midfield. We were fantastic today and looked like scoring all game but there's going to be times where games are tight and I don't think any of that 3 could be expected to pop up with a goal or assist.

Set-plays aren't to be underestimated either. Our corners today were beyond horrific and over the last 18 months or so Gerrard's delivery from corners and free-kicks has been 2nd to none.
What a **** Suarez is, he'll be running around right as rain in a sec

Rather than whine about Suarez's reaction, you'd be better off looking at Paulinho cowardly challenge.

He didn't fancy trying to track Suarez so kicks out at him as soon as Suarez knocks the ball past him.
Bar his first game Sakho has been bomb proof so far. Love Agger to bits but wouldn't want him back in at the moment.

He looks the real deal. He's still got an erratic moment in him though which he needs to cut out. The back pass in the first half is the sort of thing I worry about with him.

0 shots on target nobody put an effort in for Tottenham with a stat like that tbh. Dawson looked like he was the only one trying at all. I cant see AVB being there after tomorrow with the team in complete free fall. Lucky they are not lower in the table.

Playing some of the worst Spurs football for years yet still only 2 wins away from second place. Give AVB and the team time.

Other teams forget their recent hard times. Who predicted Arsenal and Liverpool to be 1st and 2nd in the league despite changing very little since last season ?

The turnaround for Spurs will come.

Cracking performance from Henderson (and from the rest if the midfield too), don't think any one can name a better player in the world right now than Suarez can they?

One midfielder gets injured, one gets sent off so AVB subs the other...
Holtby should have walked aswell for acting like a big tart.

Excellent performance.

Just for a change why don't you just look at Suarez without your rosey pink blinkers on?

Wet, fast pitch, Pauly made a mistake, poor challenge but Suarez did everything he could to get him sent off? Did he simulate serious injury yes or no??

For a player who's had such a troubled past and knows what it's like you'd think..... nah infact scrap that thought.... he's a **** :p

Wonder how avb try's to defend himself, I'd like to say if our midfield performs that well until gerrard is back he will struggle to get his place back but Rodgers won't ever give him less games if not needed which will be a shame if the rest do better over all

That's what is so frustrating. I'm just your average Spurs fan saying what 95% of all the other Spurs fans are thinking.

So why can't all these multi-millionaire professionals see it?

Makes my **** itch

I appreciate that Levy does not do knee jerk reactions; most fans, including me, are too quick to judge. Redknapp had to go because he lacked commitment and couldn't do anything but counter attacks. AVB can't get performances out of his players; I would be interested to see what osnthe watershed moment. Losing 0-5 and 0-6 must be pretty compelling reasons to fire a manager.

Behave yourself. He caught him chest high and was no where near the ball.

He didn't simulate anything..

Why don't you admit paulinho changed the angle of his leg completely ? Or are you ignoring it cause was done to a player you hate? We all know Suarez has dragged us through bad times and been a knob but least he plays well I pitch and performs regardless of his situation.

We played a high line against Villa last season and they completely did us for pace on the counter over and over again. Only happened one more time against Swansea in the Carling Cup before Rodgers changed things around and stopped it dead.

I commend AVB for sticking to a formation and style of football that he wants them to play long term but short term he doesn't have the right players to play that way so he's either too proud to change things or massively out of his depth in a tactical sense. Needs a plan B quick!

Ronaldo, obviously.
Overall yes, this season no.

It was the pitch that made Paulinho kick out at Suarez? Not even AvB's going to blame the pitch today.

Whether Suarez was hurt or not (and I'm not saying he wasn't as I don't know) is neither here nor there. 9 out of 10 players exaggerate injuries these days but Paulinho only has himself to blame.

Still think Suarez was motm today the guy was absolutely every where when Liverpool were attacking. He reminded me of Henry today with some of his play, he was world class today and has been all season.

He probably was but it's no longer a surprise when he performs like that. 2 goals, 2 assists and even the other goal came from a rebound from his shot - not sure if he gets the assist for that.
