Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14 - 15th December 2013]

we're ahead of man utd, we had a rubbish back 4, we're in the europa cup, the quarter's of a domestic cup and have the fa cup to play in too.

on paper, it's promising. on the pitch we were very bad. i just wish we'd try 4-4-2

It must hurt losing 5-0 at home to the team you loathe :p

Probably the amount of money's he spent and how awful they look in attack. Having said that, if he was British the media wouldn't touch him just like they're not touching Moyes... yet.

How much money did he spend? Baldini was the man brought in to sign the players.

Despite a lot of people raving about Spurs signings in the summer, I thought it was clear that they were short in terms of creativity. The time it's taking Lamela to adapt (if he does) has compounded that.

It's always hard to know where to apportion blame in a DoF type set-up but AvB can't be held completely responsible. He's got a £26m striker that relies on service and the players he's got serving him are Lennon, Townsend and Chadli.

redknapp was sacked because he flirted with the england job and showed disrespect. redknapp also had bale, modric and VDV and we were simple to set-up.

avb has new players to bring in. i can see what he's trying to do but it's just not happening.

i wouldn't want capello or mancini. there is no way on earth redknapp would be asked back. i want balls to the wall pace down the flanks in a 4-4-2. i don't care about shipping goals, i want entertainment, not possession football played from the back.

i like lloris and i like the high line. i don't like pointless rotation and baffling subs. it just goes to show how integral bale was, we were pretty much a one man team upon reflection.

i would imagine levy told avb he wouldn't be fussed about a top 4/6 finish this season when he allowed bale to leave.

if he picks up a point of better in his next game wont he be the quickest spurs manager to 100 Pl points?

the side needs time to gel imo, but Ive said that from the start of the season

Possibly not for much longer lol

wonder where we would be spending that additional £70m that you spent......lol

edit I said in the summer on here it was going to be very difficult to assimilate so many new players into one team, but I think its beyond that now. Its also a case of majority of them being pretty inexperienced - individually (in their old teams) they looked very promising but because with in-experience you get inconsistancy, which is only natural, with so many players thats just amplified.

I think it's a very rare club that brings in a DOF and both would ignore a manager who says "I don't want that player" or ignores the suggestions of the manager.

Most clubs would have a DoF , just in a different name. Dein was probably everything a DoF was for Wenger, Wenger tells him who he wants, Dein goes and does it. It probably helps managers who want that help, DoF gets to deal with new contracts so if the Dof doesn't give the player as much as he wants or plays hardball, it somewhat insulates the relationship from the manager.

For all we know AVB chose every single last player, unless I hear otherwise I will assume that is the case, because few clubs(outside of Chelsea/Real) go around buying players and forcing them on a manager, the entire staff is there to bring about the vision of the manager.

AFAIK, AVB chose Soldado, knowing what type of formation and team he wanted to play, that choice was incorrect. He chose Holtby and despite being **** every single game, continues to play him because he thinks he's great. Lamela is taking time to adapt mostly because AVB won't play him, Defoe has no form because AVB is refusing to play him consistently. They have no left back because he forced BAE out of the club for no apparent reason.

AVB is responsible for the majority of what is going on there, it was AVB by all accounts who pushed Ade out of training, did the DoF ask him to do that. Did a DoF ask him to pick a couple players at Chelsea to burn to make a point to the rest of the squad? He didn't just kick two players out, he kicked them out of the first team, refused to let them go to the club xmas party IIRC.

Considering it's the same problems he had at Chelsea, and he's repeating them all, I find it hard to blame anyone except AVB... and LEvy for ignoring what he did at Chelsea.

this is the other side to it. we're not actually doing too badly (surprisingly) though this is a reflection on the league as a whole. i didn't expect liverpool and arsenal to be where they are, liverpool especially and they wouldn't be if they didn't have suarez who is the best player in the league by a stretch, just like bale was last season.

if we could score and our midfield didn't depart, we'd be alright!

. He chose Holtby and despite being **** every single game, continues to play him because he thinks he's great.

holtby came on as a sub for sandro and has had some good performances previously. i was gutted he didn't start.

i am pleased with most of the signings, especially vlad and paulinho. capoue is actually a decent player. haven't seen enough of lamela, eriksen has shown promise, chadli is ok but not a standout winger.

soldado is a sublime finisher but does not suit a lone striker position in the pl and it's so frustrating that we don't partner him with defoe, especially for home games.

i was never BAE's biggest fan but he was our best lb and i cannot get over the fact that AVB loaned him out. this has cost us greatly.

Holtby is fricking awesome. He is one of the few Spurs players who can play a forward pass to central areas. Many of our players pass sideways and then hope we can go around the sides of oppositions' midfields. Holtby can play through the middle, he has a great engine and lots of passion.

Like Dembele he is playing out of position. He wants to play deep and Dembele wants to play higher up yet neither gets their wish...

Adebayor proving what a classless snake he is again.

Guy has never had any class about him, Spurs are better off rid.
