Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 17th Jan 2012]

Really good game today enjoyed it a lot! Swansea were excellent and Arsenal barely deserved one of their goals let alone Walcott's equaliser.

Ramsey put in probably the worst performance I've seen from any player this season, absolutely awful he was today.

Well I for one can't wait for Wenger to buy another central attacking midfielder and either, bench him till he wants to leave, pay him for 5 years of being injured, or he's actually good, and not injured, so we play him as a DM instead of Song because Song is so god damned useless. :(

Song was useless again tonight, and for the pretty crucial second goal does what he does best, he's ahead or Dyer, doesn't look around, see's us lose possession, doesn't look around, doesn't check for the danger. The pass goes in behind him and while 5 seconds before he could have spotted Dyer covered his run and intercepted the ball with ease, as per usual he see's the pass THEN reacts, then is caught chasing the player and its too late to do anything about it.

Though to be fair the usual result is clattering into the back of the player and giving away a freekick or penalty and getting a card..... at least he didn't do that as well :p

Ramsey also wasn't THAT bad, no way was the performance near one of the worst in the league this season nor one of the worst from Arsenal tonight. Replays quite clearly show Dyer if anything stamps on(i don't think remotely on purpose) Ramsey's shin, and the second, yes definately partially his fault. it wasn't his fault the whole defence acted like retards behind him and Arshavin did rather underhit the ball which left it there as a pretty much 50/50, no matter how good you are you won't always win them.

The rest of his game wasn't brilliant, he had good and bad spells, he was better than Song and the completely useless Benny, better than Walcott and Rosicky was almost entirely useless when he came on.

thankyou, swansea

It's been clear for some time Spurs aren't in a fight with Arsenal this year.

Meh, looking at Arsenal stats, if anyone remembers me ranting about buying Arshavin way back when, at that stage we were on par with Chelsea and Utd goals wise but letting in almost twice as many goals.

Ok, we are actually behind City/Utd this year in goals but pretty much on par with Chelsea and Spurs, however we've conceded 50% more than utd/Spurs and basically 100% more than City.

That's basically the problem we had when we got Arshavin, and the problem we've had for years, when we've spunked money on Walcott, and Gervinho, and CHamakh, and AOC. Its our defence costing us, not the offence and it was costing us for a couple years before we got Arshavin.

So we persist with perennially injured defenders, ones that simply aren't good enough and constantly end up buying last second not world class replacements :(

Wenger, missing the problem since forever. The old guard and anyone that really played with the old guard left in 05-06, and we've been cack since then, that is also basically when we stopped playing Gilberto (well the season after) and have had years with Denilson/Song since then, all crap defensively.

.

we're always in a fight with arsenal from a psychological view. you've had better success over the past decade and will still beat us next month actually scratch that, i'm gonna say nothing on our upcoming fixture as i don't want to jinx or spoil the good feeling i have about spurs.

thing is though, we are playing well as a team, you are not. you need to replace players, we're pretty solid in every position as far as finances allow, and you're still on 10 points behind us. that's why the victory for swansea was so nice, especially as chelsea won when they deserved to draw.

only a fool would not fancy arsenal to finish above spurs, there's a long way to go still but i've not felt this good about tottenham since ...... hmmm

Great game today. I may have to pay for an extra seat.. my arse was chewing it for the last 20 mins :D

Took some pics too, here's a taster while they upload.

Cheers :)

It's nothing on some of the set ups on here, but it does a job. I wish I had a longer lens, the action down the other end always escapes me (as you see from the penalty shot).

Oh, anyone else think AOC would do pretty good as a fullback for the time being. he has that knack of getting the ball, he's got pace, he's very strong for his size, he reads the game very well, he can tackle a bit. Frankly he certainly can't be worse than what we have now, and considering Wenger will start Walcott no matter how **** he is, its a way for AOC to stay match fit and get games.

Basically why he ruined Puncheon's career back when he was with us. Has bag's of ability going forwards and most importantly listened when Adkins spent months training him to go back and tackle (all our forward players are expected to do it). Shame 15m is something you just can't say no too (especially when the players dad is a skate and a money grabber)

Horrific performance today. Yes we have injury problems at right and left back but I doubt the players who are actually injured would have made any difference whatsoever. The midfield was shocking and yet again we were completely toothless in attack and this game just showed how much we rely on RVP to do virtually everything in the final third. Walcott is so bad that I have no idea why Wenger continues to pick him, he doesn't seem anywhere near as quick as he used to be, his movement is rubbish, he can't pass, he can't tackle without knocking it out for a throw, he rarely bothers attempting to stand a defender up, he's just absolute gash at everything. I was surprised he even managed to put it in the net, I give him credit for the finish but he had yet another shocking game.

AOC should have started, even at his age he offers much more than Walcott, he's tricky, much more direct, better at passing, and doesn't look like he would blow away in anything more than a mild breeze, plus he doesn't have a face you'd want to smack with a paperweight unlike our Theo.

Mertesacker, yet again was absolutely dire, I thought he might have started adapting but he's still doing his 'falling over at every opportunity' routine, Koscielny is the only decent thing in defense at the moment and like I said, I doubt the injured players will make that much difference apart from Vermaelen, who after his excellent first season has just turned into as much of a crock as the majority of the rest of our team. I'm starting to get ****ed off now, I have a lot of patience for Arsene, but even my patience is being tested to the limit now with his poor buys, inability to choose the correct team, insistence on bubble wrapping players for unnecessary amounts of time and his absolute ineptitude when it comes to choosing the right substitutes. Pathetic.
