Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 17th September 2012]

FT, 4-0. Not our best performance but got the job done and Buttner was really impressive, Evra will have to up his game. Nice to see Powell score a decent midfielders goal, too.

FT at City/Stoke too.

QPR 0-0 Chelsea. :(

Chelsea didn't deserve to win. Hardly created a chance which is not surprising really. Lampard, Bertrand, and Ramires just don't create chances which left us completely reliant on Hazard (who to be fair should have been awarded a pen in the 1st half). Desperately need Mata back.

Much better in the second half but it took us some effort to get there. Impressive performance by Buttner on his debut, will see how good he is defensively in the future.

Pleased with a good Arsenal win today.

Just seen that Blackburn have scored to win 5-3 and go top of the Championship.

How long will some fans keep moaning and wanting the manager and owners out.

80k a week to keep Welbeck as well, I'd have kept him at 25-35k a week with a promise to make it easy for him to move on or renegotiate a deal if he hits certain performance numbers or something. 80k a week is mental, its much worse than giving Rooney 200+k a week.

You lose Berbatov, who is 10 times the player Welbeck is and despite not playing much at all in the past 18 months has been very good for Fulham straight off, and give Welbeck a massive pay increase? He had like a 5 game run at Sunderland where he got a couple flukey goals a couple alright goals, and that was it. At Utd he scored exactly no more or less than I'd expect anyone to if they are given that number of games at a top team. The worst striker in the country would get a few minimum playing 30+ games for Utd, a remotely decent one will get 10+ in a several seasons, but they won't turn a game on its head when you're being outplayed and desperately need a win, a great striker might not score significantly more but will give so sooo much more to the team.

Welbeck, Downing, Henderson, set for life on ridiculous contracts that their level of ability has never come close to being worth..... life is so fair :(

The last time we beat Southampton 6-1, we went on a 49 game unbeaten run. ;)

Hehe, it was a good win but, I'm not reading too much into it. I think our offence certainly MADE their defence look that bad, but it wasn't great to start with. Cazorla looks great, Podolski looks fantastic, Arteta made a truly fantastic pass for Gervinho's goal.

While Gervinho got a goal, he fluffed an awful lot as per usual also even against poor opposition. I fully expect Walcott/Gervinho to pop up with goals and the odd assist in games like this and disappear against Utd/Chelsea/City. THe area of the pitch we look so much improved is central midfield, how many years(its 8 ;) ) have I said that NOT having someone like Song/Denilson in there makes all the difference. Its not about the quality of your best player, its how good your worst player is that makes the real difference. The constant mistakes and constant freekicks we've conceded for years and years. We look so much more organised with three central midfielders who actually know what to do for 90 minutes of every game.

I don't think Coquelin is going to be a brilliant player, he's not going to make 9/10 performances but he won't make the constant mistakes either.

Keeper though, he's looking ever more dodgy, I think Arsenal suffer from, Wengeritis... over a longer period they all seem to get abnormally cocky(for not good players that is) and seem to start acting like they are the best and don't need to try as hard. Walcott, Sagna, Song, keeper, after a win they'd all be in the press talking up how good they, arsenal and our title chances are while the grafters, your Arteta's/Verm's/Cesc's have a level head and constantly try hard, play hard for the entire 90 minutes, aren't mistake prone idiots and don't get so cocky. Sczcesny's distribution is becoming downright terrible, with a bunch of miskicked clearances every game now, and flapping at an awful lot of easy to take crosses.

I still think there is some dead wood to remove but we can put out a fantastic first team... everywhere that is except in goal. I think a really really top notch keeper and the team starts to look very very impressive. Not quite 49 game unbeaten run good, but pretty damn good.

We need a new left back as well but with two guys on high wages there it isn't going to happen and realistically a dominating not mistake prone keeper will do a heck of a lot more for the team than a better left back.

I have to say, I was very impressed with our performance against Man City today, and whilst I'd have liked to sneak a win I'll happily settle for a point against the league champions.

We looked liked a completely different team today. Adam and N'Zonzi stood out for me, two really good signings who put in two outstanding performances.
