Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 17th September 2012]

3-0 Sunderland FT I expect continuing with the same trend of two attacks and two awful pieces of defending. We're kind of like Arsenal a few years ago except can't score goals.

EDIT: Some of the players grimm? He tried to buy 2 at most, that doesn't make a team. We have better players individually than a lot of teams, we also have the worst morale I could imagine with some shocking performances from great players. (Suarez,Gerrard,Reina,Skrtel/Agger)

It's difficult to predict the future of Liverpool, at the moment it looks like they'll be a mid/highish-table job like Everton (at best) for the foreseeable future.

I can see what they are trying to do with Rodgers system. Possession football is very effective as we've seen from various teams, but you need certain types of high quality players in order for it to work properly. Liverpool's attack looks toothless most of the time.

Gerrard has been quite poor for a long time now in my opinion, he just looks out of place within the system. He's given away a load of passes in that first half alone.

Now I've said all that, you'll score 5 in the second half. :p

After seeing how well he did during Swans' Championship campaign, I thought he'd do really well... but yeah, so far it's almost impossible to disagree with that :(

I think a bit of perspective is needed here, though [the pundits I'm watching are howling at how bad Liverpool are, bafflingly]. Liverpool have been in total control and created lots of chances - they're playing a lot more fluently than they were in preseason.

I also think Suarez is due some of the Borini criticism - this season we're all realising just how bad his finishing is.

I wasn't really trying to make a point, just rambling/exaggerating really :)

The joke about renaming the team was just because he's signed Joe Allen from Swansea, and he tried to sign Sigurdsson as well but failed (wasn't there some agreement in place to prevent him?)
 
Not sure if anyone listens to The Guardian Football Podcast. A few weeks back there was a good debate on about the current transition Liverpool is going through. The consensus was that under the previous three managers Liverpool were a lot more direct in their play.

Under Rodgers the players are taking their time adapting to his tactics. Long term I have no doubt Liverpool will be a permanent fixture in the top 6.

I am also sticking my neck out that their poor form will not continue for much longer, starting with a win next weekend against us, you heard it hear first :(

I think we'll be bottom half until Christmas and we'll only improve if we buy a striker. We could become the best passing team in the world but it won't make a blind bit of difference if we don't have someone to get on the end of those passes and score.

Agreed and I think Rodgers must have learned from his Naievity (sp?) on that particular issue. Your only problem is that any selling club will know you need another decent Forward so expect to pay a little premium as you are a club currently in need of nothing more and nothing less than a goal scorer

They don't even bother calculating the points for Titus, as no one in their right minds would have him in the team.

On a similar note, I have Gibbs in my team ....got two assists for the own goals:cool:
