Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 17th September 2012]

Great local derby on Friday night. Charlton and Palace haven't played for a few seasons now, and what with the animosity between the clubs, it should make for a spicy encounter.

Come on you addicks!

What complete BS, Brentford had something like eleventy billion shots on target to Orients 0, then Brentford have their guy having their shirt tugged right infront of ref, they go up the other end and score a clear as day offside goal. No excuses for the linesman, clear as day three of their players offside.

Brentford played some really really good passing football, some great link up play but the shots, while on target often weren't quite good enough. Absolutely dominated the first half, dominated most of the second half, Orient were toothless upfront besides the offside goal. How they didn't get a point let alone all three I really have no clue.

Looking forward to playing Saints, they've looked really good so far. We could have done without the International break, Cazorla and Podolski were really just beginning to click. I hope Szczesny returns and I think I'd leave Mertesacker on the bench for this one.

toshj will be gutted, then again Orient are probably going to go down so it sort of makes it better...ish...

:( our last two games have seen us make 39 efforts at goal, 20 shots on target and play really decent football... and we've scored one goal.

It's very frustrating. As far as League One sides go, I'd say we were now one of the better footballing sides which is no mean feat given that we've played the same direct, long ball rubbish for the best part of twenty years. We have some really talented youngsters (Harlee Dean whom we got from Southampton, Adam Forshaw from Everton, Harry Forrester from Villa) whom would walk into any L1 team, but we seem to be lacking in composure when it comes to converting our possession and chances into goals.

Since new money has been put into the club 3-4 years ago, we've really developed as a team and club (we're going for category 2 EPPP academy), and there's no coincidence that we have had more efforts at goal and on goal this season, plus have two of the top goal scorers, but we should be winning these kind of matches by 3 or 4 goals.

Doesn't help that a) Orient's goal involved three players being offide, b) that Andy Scott was waxing lyrical about how we have one of the biggest budgets in the league (the club believe our budget is between 7th and 9th in the League - and the exact same budget Scott had when he managed us two years ago...) and c) I've woken up with a beast of a cold.

Now need to get myself in the mood for Bournemouth away on Tuesday night!

I'm a little petrified of this game, loose badly and we probably will start asking questions (unfairly) of Adkins, plus its Arsenal who have some very good players!

I think Mertesacker might be the only CB with an answer to Lambert by just being bigger than him... Your other options I don't think will do well in the air against him.

On the bigger plus it looks like we will be playing Gaston Ramirez :D cannot wait to see him on the pitch! Also cannot wait to see the Emerates, it's not that far from where I live so I thought I might as well go...

:( it sounds all very positive other than the score line, should beat Bournemouth though, they look wonderfully hit and miss (even with our old fav. of Barnard).

It is good you are getting something good out of Harlee Dean though! And pushing for a cat 2 academy is a very good idea for the future (and can be a mild gloat that you are going in a better direction than Watford who abandoned their academy for cat3 when the new owners came in to save costs)

As long as no one gets on the clubs back over results for a little while confidence will grow and hopefully you'll get into putting the chances away.

Yup, having seen Brentford since really the late 80's, the football in show is really fantastic to see. I think although we had a lot of chances they weren't all in great positions. One strong shot from the right of the goal was a half decent shot but you really need a keeping mistake from there. The ball got played in behind well but it was usually out wide, very few in behind then run on for a 1 on 1 with the keeper type chances.

THe best chance was probably the overlap on the right the cut back but the shot blocked, the right back did great but just woefully underhit the cutback so the guy had to close the ball and gave the defenders a chance to block, if that had more speed on the ball it would have been almost certainly a goal, shame :(

Right back looks really quite promising, completely willing to go around people, worked the overlap great, decent defensively though Orient weren't much cop upfront. Reminded me of Eboue, he would kinda amble towards someone then suddenly move the ball a yard and blow past them. Forrester looked really good, again willing to take people on, good passing, good movement.

Gah, which my knee's didn't suck so badly, I miss going down there and have gotten close to going a few times, I can't take winter weather outside at all and they aren't much better in the summer :(

The forums this morning have been an ugly site full of short-termist, angry views. Perspective is need. We run at a loss of £3.4mio per annum due to a very kind, very wealthy fan backing the club (sensibly... unlike Bouremouth whom are recklessly throwing money around and taking out expensive and lengthy contracts...) and the goal is to get into the Championship playing attractive football.

I remember sitting at Dagenham & Redbridge on a raining Winter evening 18 months ago, watching Andy Scott's team getting pee'd on 4-1. The ugliest performance I've ever seen. For us to lose 1-0 to an offside goal at a stadium we've not won at since 1995, whilst completely bossing the game and have 21 efforts at goal, I'm obviously annoyed but equally happy with things.

Harlee Dean is a cracking player. Can understand why you let him go, but he turned down a couple of Championship teams to get first team football with us. Having an ex-CM as a CB is a godsend in League One.

Given Watford's ability to produce good youngsters - last year probably only second to Southampton's academy outside of the EPL - I'm massively shocked by their owner's arrogance with regards to youth. Obviously Cat 2 is an expensive endeavour (I think it's £1mio+ per year to run), but it's probably vital to Watford's existence once the Italians realise that they're ruining the club (and turning off the fanbase) by treating it as a feeder club for their larger teams. Somewhat ironic given Watford's history versus that of Granada... :(

The right back, Shaleum Logan, is turning into one of the best full-backs in the league. He was at Man City for years (was even in their 25 man EPL Squad the season before last) and is lightening quick.

You should get down to Griffin Park if your knees improve - the atmosphere this season is really picking up. We got Oldham at home in a couple of weeks, which should be fun - everyone likes giving Dickov a bit of stick, plus he and Uwe are mates from Man City days.

I didn't realise Harlee Dean turned down some champ offers for first team with you! Good on him as one of the important bits it getting players with the right sort of attitude around.

Every forum gets a mad amount of bed wetters after every game, ours went into meltdown a bit over the Wigan result which was funny and slightly worrying. Playing the right kind of football is essential to success as I stand by the results will come, especially against Oldham, should beat them and get to wind up Dickov!

Watford is just a comedy, its a shame as we were in the same group as them in the youth league so I would have gone to the away game for the u21's, instead the owners are just short terming it till they find a decent buyer. In about a year or two someone (or more likely the fans) will buy the club back and try to fix it.
