Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 19th August 2015]

I'd still like to see Mata playing more centrally, when he did roam around he made a few great passes, created the goal and almost one for Depay.

I think that is where he is naturally at his best. Needs to be given a free role up front and in the centre to pick out chances.

Man U doing enough against a Villa team who didn't want to be there imo.

Usually find the Monday night games boring, hoping the Friday night games don't follow suit.

Nothing much to get excited about. Early days however.

Another meh performance but there are glimpses of good things to come, Rooney looks a problem area (but as ever he can suddenly come good).

The defence is reasonably good, I don't see any huge problems with it, but I suspect Blind could end up getting pulled apart by a good team. Smalling was good again, as are the full backs.

As for the rest, as I see it we need a formation that fits: Schweinsteiger (who looks superb), Herrera, Mata, and Schneiderlin. I like Depay but he's trying too hard to score at the moment, but I'd keep playing him. I think with a striker making proper runs and doing more, we could pose a significant threat.

Awkward situation if Rooney doesn't start looking like he'll score 20+ goals this season...

The Pedro situation is frustrating. He seems to be mucking evryone about. I would give him a deadline or move on. Another out and out striker is needed badly, whether it be Pedro, Benzema, Cavani or someone else. Rooney cannot lead that line for the season.

Hard to judge how good he is because you'll naturally be comparing him to Valencia rather than an actual footballer... by comparison he's the best right back who ever has or will live :p

I'm not comparing him to anyone, I just love the way he plays. Doesn't seem to get flustered and just gets the job done with the ability to bomb forward, looks the complete package to me. But there are harder tests to come for certain.

I don't see Pedro as an out and out striker, he can do that but he's limited. I'd rather see him out wide or something.

I'm not sure if any 'top' strikers are available. I'd like us to have a punt on someone like Lacazette (based on stats and reputation, I haven't seen much of him), but I don't see any links to him.

It's clear LvG is desperate for Muller, but in the highly unlikely event Bayern sell him, he'd cost a world record fee, or getting that way.

Darmian to me stood out again 2 weeks in a row. Looks an excellent signing.
Yep - two solid games. Some dodgy defending at corners but he looks good. A bit like Heinze. Totally committed and decent athlete. Like what I am seeing.

They wont be able to drag these 1-0's out every week. They are getting results, but they need to improve.
Yes but no team is going to hit top form from the off. At times we passed the ball very well but then went to sleep and gave it away. Big problem was that nothing, yes nothing stuck to Rooney all night. I have always said he was over rated but tonight he was abject.

great win for united, not sure they deserved it tho
Come on. there was only one team that played any football tonight. Just because we didnt tear them a new one doesnt mean it was a lucky win. Not spectacular but totally solid. Six points is six points - I'll take that.

Lacazette looked rubbish against us. He's got his rep through being the top scorer in ligue 1. well in 2012, Giroud was top scorer as well. So it's not really a mark of out and out quality.
