Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 19th October 2011]

Is this so called 'history' about this story here?

If so, I think you'll find it wasn't Evra himself making the claims.

There was the Chelsea groundsmen incident and supposedly a couple more too.

Even with the Finnan incident, it would have been nice had Evra come out and said the accusations against Finnan were not true. In the end (despite no charges actually being made) Finnan/Liverpool took it upon themselves to prove the accusations were false.
When Evra says the ref knows, surely he means that he's just told him about it ;s.

You'd have to assume so.

Want me to express how ****ing nervous I am about the Steel City Battle tomorrow?
Want me to tell you about how much it annoys me that it's not on television?

Want me to talk about Wednesdays form and team selections?

I do  love watching non prem football!

Just home from seeing a 1-1 draw against one of the single weirdest teams in the Champ. Derby are the first team iv seen in ages that are good on the basis one person taps a silly unplanned goal in and then spends 94 mins trying to break the other teams legs! (followed by pay off a terrible ref). Still top of the champ is good going.

Wish they put on the Sheffield's game tomorrow instead of Brum Leicester too, Brum will loose and loose terribly as they are terrible but the Sheffield derby might actually be fun.

Oh and I didn't read the thread much so don't know what this weeks prem kerfuffle is about

You mean the Chelsea incident where Evra didn't actually claim anything? It was other staff that claimed Evra had been called a '******* immigrant'.

I'm also sick of the laughable arguments of Liverpool fans (mainly on Twitter) saying that Suarez couldn't possibly be racist towards Evra as he 'doesn't speak English'. :D

Phelan was a witness to Evra's claim iinm. Wasn't the racist remark put forward as the reason for Evra attacking groundsmen.

But the main point is that Evra claims he NEVER heard any racist comment during the incident.

It's amazing how these 'chinese whispers' go. Why let the facts get in the way?

Neville kicked off against the FA for Rio ban in England training camp
Neville never said boo to goose at United
Evra kicked off against the French manager and management team
Evra never said boo to goose at United

:D

That rings a bell tbf. I've been trying to find some links to the FA report but can't find anything, just the odd quote which claimed Evra's version of events were exaggerated and unreliable.

As above, there are said to be other incidents which I don't know of. The point about the Finnan incident still stands too; he and Utd refused to comment on the accusations when asked. Had he not heard Finnan make any remark then he could have put the story to bed with 1 simple statement. Instead Finnan and Liverpool had to get a lip-reader to clear his name.

And Suarez has denied the accusations.

...

Did you even read the story?

A police investigation has been launched after deaf football fans complained they had lip-read Liverpool's Steve Finnan making a racist remark towards Patrice Evra of Manchester United.

Evra, however, was unaware of any racist taunts. The Senegal-born Frenchman, a £5.5m signing from Monaco in January, has not raised any complaints although he is aware of the allegations.

Well done, you are lower league football Wigan are in the EPL ZERO 0 NOTHING ZILTCH interest for years I have tried to build a rapport, tbh hope this is the last season in the EPL for Wigan turns into Arsenal Liverpool Man United, thank god not rose to the bait of Man City fans the same team no investment such is life, Whelan can do what he wants. Shame you had no voice on a forum in the mid 90s :D

Still have to laugh at this Wigan v Man City, 1999 Play-Offs, 1st Leg That was 12 years ago. Mind blown, now they can afford anyone, Dat arab money.

Manc City ****

Fact is lower league football is dead, to many people that should support it, insert 100s of thousands of fans from different parts of the country and you wonder why the English game has gone down the *oi no swearing!*.

Me and you tummy need to go for a pint one day.

Lower league football isn't dead :) It's still massively popular and the Championship is starting to be shown around the World :)

League One is a bit "meh", but I've been very pleasantly surprised by it in regards to the standard of football and number of football clubs that try and play football, not kick and rush football (take note Stoke).

Championship is enjoyable though, some good teams, good players and some great characters on the bench too. Much more kick and rush football played in the Championship too. Also, I really don't like Leeds much, but have enjoyed watching them play last few season, really rate that Snodgrass player.

I'd drink you under the table Cheets (take note that isn't serious, as I don't really drink anymore).

I really have enjoyed watching lower League English footie, nice tour of League One for Wednesdayites! I really love other European football too, and South American, so I'll try and watch / listen to whatever I can.

I'm also, more shocked by the standard of refereeing then football in the lower leagues, it's terrible.

I wish they put it on too, there is something like 10'000 + tickets sold for the bean back at Hillsborough mind, which is quite good.

It's going to be amazing, atmosphere at their place isn't as good mind, but it will still be amazing. Really annoyed the BBC didn't pick it up, Sky, well Football outside of the Premier League doesn't really exist, but I'd still of thought one of the biggest and most fierce rivalries in English football was worth a punt.

Really nervous and excited, can't really sleep (as I'm typing this at 3.40 in the morning) just had my friend leave and now she's gone I'm just stuck worrying about tomorrow, pleased for the early kick off as it's less time to wait :p

The issue with Evra and Suarez can go one of three ways

1) No Conclusive proof either way

2) Suarez is Charged for saying racist comments with proof - Interesting to see Liverpool's reaction

3) Evra is found to be a liar - Interesting to see Utd's reaction

I'm sure that football fans up and down the country will take 1 & 3 and mix them up a little. I will be very disappointed if Evra is found to be a liar. For me using the Race Card is on par when women use the rape card knowing it wasn't. Racism is serious, when people wrongly accuse fellow pro's it really does undermine a lot of the good work the FA have done. If Suarez is guilty with evidence then Liverpool and the FA Should throw the book at him.

Personally I'm of the opinion that evra was doing his utmost in the match to wind suarez up , he knows full well that suarez is volatile and was hoping to spark that. Frankly if its found that suarez is innocent of saying a racist comment then I hope the fa bans evra for lying and slander and attempting to bring another player into disrepute.

Suarez said it at least 10 times and no one else picked up on it and how many times did he report it to the ref?
Nice guilty until proven innocent stance some fans are taking.

IF Evra was lying chuck the book at him. If it's true, and tge way Suarez generally goes about things this would not be a massive shock, then he needs a hefty ban. I can guarantee it will end with tgeir being no evidence Or something.

If Evra is lying - fair enough, I have same issue as Loki - shouldnt use the racism card unless there is a serious allagation, and if the allegation is true throw the book at the accused, if the allagation is totally false the accusor should get banned for just as long

"Being wound up" however is no excuse at all - thats going down a road of a defender tapping a striker's ankle lightly all through a game (to wind him up) without causing any real harm, and that goes on in most games every weekend and it cant really be stopped and anyway players of all types have to learn to keep themselves under control otherwise they deserve everything they get (like WR for England for eg)

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying being wound up would justify saying it. I'm of the belief he never said it at all in fact. I was just saying that from what I saw of evras behaviour during the match it seemed to me that he was doing what he could to rile suarez because he knew he was the sort of player who would kick off. Kind of like how people try to rile Rooney cause they know he will kick off and get a booking or worse, but don't bother trying to rile giggs because his temperament is far less likely to result in an offence.
