Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 19th October 2011]

Ah well, with that UTD team - did fergie ever expect to win that match? Wellbeck up front on his own with the least creative midfield possible around him:/ i never thought id see fergie go so defensive, against liverpool of all people:( Im sure we even played 442 against chelsea...

And as for Giggsy, who knew that he'd move away to protect his wedding tackle?! I mean after the summer revelations he was hardly going to put it on the line being the player he is, was he?!

for right or wrong Utd still left Anfield with a point more than they did in the last few seasons, and who knows with a different team they could easily have lost the game as much as won it

Its going to be a major story, if it isnt already (and given that the FA have to make a full investigation its not going to happen quickly) - shouldnt there be a seperate thread about the Evra / Saurez incident?

In the case with involving Chelsea groundsman, Tony Bethell, it was Mike Phelan and Richard Hartis of Manchester United’s coaching staff who claimed they heard the abuse. As the FA report says “The two witnesses who say they heard those words directed by Mr Bethell at Mr Evra are the Manchester United first team coach Mr Mike Phelan and the goalkeeping coach Mr Richard Hartis.” It later goes on to say “Even if we disregard the fact that Mr Evra has never claimed to have heard such a remark on that day, it is notable that there were several other people far nearer to Mr Bethell at the critical point in time than were either Mr Phelan or Mr Hartis.”

Fergie has confirmed that Evra wants to persue the allegation and that it is now in the hands of the FA.

Bearing in mind that Evra pointed out in his interview that there are cameras that should back him up, you have to assume that he wouldn't be pursuing it unless he actually thinks they will have caught something. It's not like he is trying to say its his word against mine. Though of course it is possible that despite all the cameras nothing was caught and it still damages Suarez's reputation.

It'll be interesting to see what the FA do either way though.

I also don't know if sky record the output from every camera they have at the game or if they just record the main broadcast. I imagine they probably do and keep them for a set period before deleting them.

I really cant see anything happening with this whole Evra/Suarez thing, I just cant imagine there's any conclusive evidence that backs up the allegations

On the other hand with the FA there's always the possibility of Evra getting a 5 match ban just for getting them to investigate it ;)

Evra claimed Suarez said it more than 10 times. Surely 1 of the countless Sky cameras would have caught him saying it at least 1 time? The incident is said to have happened just before a corner, it's surprising that no other Utd player heard and reacted to the remarks and it's surprising that Evra didn't mention it when he was spoken to by the ref several times.

Would sky want to obstruct the FA in trying to find racism with all the bad PR that would follow as a result?

Sky showed the video evidence of the Busquets/Marcelo incident from last season prior to the investigation. They also show all the video evidence of other investigations - violent conduct charges etc (Rooney's elbow last season for example) - prior to the hearings too.

They've also shown snippets of the Suarez/Evra exchange (which shows nothing) already.

It's possible that they might withhold evidence until after any hearing but unlikely imo.

So there was only one exchange all match?

Like to know exactly which corner was being talked about , Ive read a few reports but nothing was said specifically

I dont think any footballer hired by either of the two clubs is stupid enough to shout out loud enough (given the crowd) anything that was suggested - ie anyone would have to be VERY stupid to say it loud enough - being off the ball, its probably easier for mics / cameras not to pick it up

Im not suggesting Saurez is definitely guilty at all - Im just saying to make it that obvious anyone would need to be incredibly daft to say the least

If it was a young coloured player, that would be one thing - but imo Evra even suggesting something that serious with all his experiece (of playing in spain etc where crowds are notoriously bad amongst other places) and years at Utd and Monaco....its a hard situation to read externally

So there was only one exchange all match?

At least 10 times apparently.

And it doesn't matter how loud he said it. If it was seen on a camera it could easily be read on his lips. I vividly remember seeing Scholes say "get up you ****ing poof" after one of his more spirited challenges. You couldn't hear it but it was easy to read. That's why stations have also taken to blurring out swearing as well as beeping it out or cutting the sound out.

Whether that would be enough to get them to do anything about it I don't know. A lawyer would probably get a deaf person in to testify that the same movements in the mouth are present for other words that are in no way offensive and so argue that there is no concrete evidence.

It was the corner where they were squabbling on the goal line, it got took, the ref stopped it, Evra went to the ref to complain and then Kuyt who wasn't near ran over protesting what he said wasn't true (seemingly). The Ref then spoke to Evra and Suarez, corner resumed, think it went out for a goal kick and then Evra got booked for continuing to complain I think when told to stop.

Can't find the video of the supposed incident anymore, which is a pain,
