Me either. For some reason though I'm really disappointed we conceded. Maybe I'm just destined to never be happy :p.

We always seem to concede like that late on, it's almost a given hence why earlier in the thread I said we needed a 3rd to have any hope! Sure enough, the miracle came

In terms of Rodgers and can he improve Liverpool long term, the most worrying thing aside from crap results seems to be that Liverpool's biggest problem last year was goals, he then spent £15mil on a non goal scoring midfielder.... when Gerrard is on his last legs, Lucas will never be a goal scoring midfielder, and Shelvey/Spearing won't fill that role, and he also spent £10mil on Borini.

First thing should have been a quality striker, THEN Allen IF you had the money, IF you don't recognise that you realistically need a long term replacement for Gerrard, not someone to do the same job Lucas can do. Basically what should be worrying is that Rodgers couldn't see the blindingly obvious problems in your squad and added completely the wrong players.

That is what I see as "obsessed with possession" from Rodgers, rather than buy a goal scorer which Liverpool were so obviously in need of, he spent his "big" money on a player to keep possession. It was an active choice, spend £15mil on a proven goal scorer, or on someone to hold possession, he chose wrong.

Now to bring in goals you either go striker(with Borini being a complete waste) and push Suarez wide, winger, or two and hope they can score well, drop one of those central midfielders for someone who is more likely to score, a Michu type to replace Gerrard. The question really is money, whose available and who Rodgers will buy.

EDIT:- oh and well done Brentford, came from behind, away from home to go second in the league, with yet another great result against a top 8 team. Not lost in the last 9 and won 7 of those as well.

As far as I'm aware Borini is a striker and we were supposed to sign a certain other striker bar a colossal **** up from our club which happened.

Who? Dempsey? cant say im too upset about that one, even with our current position.

BR: "We weren't at it today. That wasn't us, we had a good weeks work but we were flat. It was important to get the first goal."
Except it was us , and its us far too frequently.

Yes its more a case of Rodgers ability to buy the right player. Ba would seemingly have cost 7.5mil, Michu 2mil, Kone... no idea how much to be honest, Walcott maybe.. but he spent £10mil on Borini, that isn't very encouraging. What happens if he spend his next £10mil on a player equally as brilliant as Borini? Dempsey, it was a crew up, and who knows whose screw up, had Rodgers not spent £15mil on Allen early and not be trying to save every penny possible on Dempsey and gone and got Dempsey at the beginning of the transfer window.

Ultimately this is down to Rodgers, he chose his main target, and he's not being particularly helpful to the team and isn't fixing any of Liverpools main problems.

Has Ba got many goals this year?

Why weren't many others in for Michu?

Most transfers are a fair bit hit and miss, thats not to say Rodger's didn't identify what we needed and went after it, whether the club pull off the signings isn't up to him. (That said glad we didn't get Dempsey due to my general dislike of the guy and don't think he would do much, big fish small pond player.)

Why weren't many in for Michu, because exactly as the Borini transfer shows in my mind, Managers are just as narrow minded, or blinkered is the better word. If they work with a player and see potential, you often see them hook up again at another club later on. Did Rodgers not see Michu because he only had was blinkered, wanted Borini, and didn't really look elsewhere?

Did Laudrup know about Michu because he's foreign and less focused on the English league and has better knowledge of other leagues? The answer is, who knows, however on seeing Borini play multiple games I fail to see a hell of a lot that suggests he has potential or is worth 10mil for a shot and comes across more like he was a player Rodgers knew more than Rodgers went out to find the best striker he could get for 10mil. In which case, who will he get in the next transfer window or better put, who else will he overlook in favour of players he's coached/managed before?

Maybe he has a few scouts he trusts and they just aren't very good, I really can't say.

However Allen is to me a pretty limited player, does something simple that most players can do, is not worth £15mil in any circumstance and like Borini, strikes me more as a player Rodgers knew, rather than the best he could get for that money.

All transfers are a risk, sure, but there are bigger and smaller risks. If you buy Falcao or Messi and they turn out crap in another league/club, then you can count yourself unlucky, if you buy Borini, who failed to do much in England previously, no one else really wanted, and wasn't highly rated, its far less surprising he failed.

Considering the money available for "rebuilding" at Liverpool, £15mil on Allen and £10 on Borini is simply ridiculous in my eyes.

All I can really base my opinion on, as yet, is one transfer window of Rodgers at Liverpool and I'm wholy unimpressed, and based on that I wouldn't be particularly positive about what he'll do in the next window. Doesn't mean he can't buy 5 gems for nothing, but If I had a £10 bet to put either way, on the last transfer window I'd bet he'll buy poorly rather than brilliantly.

Ba was very good at West Ham, and has been brilliant for Newcastle, Michu might be a fluke season, might not buta 2mil gamble sounds better than a 10mil gamble to me... Michu though had a very good season last year. I'm not saying Ba would be cheap(buyout clause could be BS) but he'd be less of a gamble, what the team actually needed, and given that team to manager the FIRST piece of business would be as good a striker as possible rather than a midfielder whose job is mostly to give the ball to other players to actually do anything useful... for me the very definition of a useless player.

Haha thought it was less.

Has Cisse got loads as well?

Cisse's been gash, think Torres after going to Chelsea bad. He is getting in decent positions but has lost all composure completely. Some of it is teams being more careful of him, giving him less time(not that he needed much), I'd guess a lot of it is pressure on him, and partially the poor run of form and constantly changing team has meant the front three changes constantly, no one has really had a fixed position.
If Newcastle get a run of injury free games with relatively the same team and the defence gets a chance to settle I think he'll come good again, Ba has been completely on fire this year... you have to factor in how woefully Newcastle have played in so many of these games to appreciate just how good Ba has been.

Yet another late winner. 23 points from 27, and beating Swindon, Sheffield UTD, MK Dons and Notts. Co on the way! I love going away and winning... Although not sure my old man appreciated me taking him into the Hooters next to their stadium :D

A cheeky tender on us getting promoted methinks.
