Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [15 - 17th December 2012]

I don't know where people are getting this from tbh. He has looked good in every game I have seen him.

It's because Villa looked WOEFUL at the start of the season, but relatively quickly started to put in better performances(not good, just better and improving most of the time), just without the results. But Villa, the team that Villa became in the past few years was dreadful and quick turn around wasn't going to happen.

Benteke is new to the country, the league, this level of football(belgian league is nowhere near the EPL quality) while also trying to intergrate into a terrible team going through huge changes. He DID look crap to start off with, and like any team building from previous terrible seasons, young squad, he'll be inconsistent and so will that team.

he's put in plenty of VERY decent performances, and a few terrible ones. He certainly has potential, and has looked good in his performances for Belgium as well.

Liverpool will complain about penalties, Sterling dived trying to get one, Agger had his shirt pulled, yes, but he was pulling Clarke's shirt at the same time AND he went down soft as crap after the ball was gone. Suarez lucky to be on the pitch as the commentators said during the game, he deserved one for the complaining about the penalty he wanted.... but he spent almost every second of that game(again) complaining to the ref about every single decision.

Even when he's not cheating, he's turning ref's against your team, and frankly trying to influence the refs by lying and screaming for everything. If anything Benteke could have got a penalty instead of scoring the third goal, Allen clearly catches him and it takes Benteke's strength, a hop and untangling his leg to shoot.

I missed that header that Villa came stupidly close with and I still can't believe they didn't score that chip, Reina was caught in no mans land, terrible from Reina and the chip was pretty damn easy, really should have been 4-0, and, I really couldn't tell with one replay but, did Pool's goal come off Gerrards arm rather than his head?

QPR game was funny, neither of Tarrabt's goals were "good", poor shot + bad deflection and the other, while he was clever to shoot early, so the keeper wasn't ready, it was so slow and I really couldn't believe the keeper didn't get too it.

Very naughty from Fellaini there. He's always been very dirty though tbh, niggles and kicks all game, every game.

edit: good and honest that from Moyes.

Jesus, I saw that elbow at the corner but not the attempted headbutt right before it, and the last one was a flat out punch. He should have got a 3 game ban min for the headbutt alone, through in a punch, a headbutt and an elbow...... he should get a HUGE ban, basically 3 game ban for each if you ask me, 9 games. Same way Suarez got two 4 game bans for more than one racist word used, etc, etc. Its hard to see if Shawcross did something to him earlier, but thats no excuse, I can't believe he's got away with the first headbutt or the punch, both are SO obvious its stupid.

EDIT:- punch is the worst because, lets assume the ref's and linesman missed the headbutt, several players spoke to the ref about it, keeper got a yellow card for pointing out the headbutt/elbow incident. The referee is WELL aware that Fellani is basically trying to assault him AND gives a freekick for the PUNCH, a freekick, not even a yellow. He's looking at them, gives the freekick, both linesman should have been told to keep a particular eye on those two, and none of them see it. Miss the first incident, that is one thing, miss the next ones is stupid, giving a freekick for the last one is just unbelievable.

To be fair if the referee isn't looking I'm glad he hasn't just guessed and given a card. There is so much going on and people running in front of the referee; I can't believe that if the referee saw them properly Fellaini wouldn't have been sent off.

I edited my previous post but basically, once its clear two players are getting into situations throughout a game, a ref's job should be to maintain control, which includes paying extra attention to anyone causing trouble. Like I said, missing the first one is a given, but multiple players highlighted what happened, most of the crowd reacted which would give the ref a clue.

If a player asks the ref to keep an eye out and tells him whats going on and the ref fails to pay any attention, the ref is not doing his job right.

Fact is that Fellani was the target for just about every cross/corner/whatever, the ref should have been watching him for half the game anyway and as said he gave a foul for the "punch" and no cards. Missing the first is forgiveable, missing all of them is absolutely not. I don't like shawcross, but NO player should have to go out on the field and put up with that kind of behaviour/treatment from Fellani, and its the ref's job to prevent it, and he failed completely. When players highlighted what he was doing, rather than saying he'd keep a closer eye, he booked their keeper. Its absolutely miserable refereeing.
