Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 18th September 2016]

I said he was nothing more than a French Carlton Palmer, little did I know how true that would turn out to be :D

Unfortunately, he's a fantastic talent so once Rooney retires in 4 or 5 years he should be allowed to shine.

But even against teams like feyenoord he hardly shone. His shooting is pretty bad so far, I'd call it memphisesque. It doesn't matter whether he is out of position if he isn't tackling or really working the keeper with shots etc.

I'm nowhere near writing him off, I still think he'll come quite good. But £90m good? That's where my doubts lie.

It didn't take long to go from United fans ****ing themselves off while posting their first 11's, to OMG we are so ****. Hard to believe 75% of you wanted Fergie gone about 10 years before he retired :D

I said when he went you would burn through managers and you will continue to do so. I like Jose but you keep signing managers with desperation that they will change after 30 years to the United way. Jose won't and he will be gone soon after he's fallen out with half the team.

I'm sure Uefa will be along soon to tighten up fair play to make it even harder for other clubs to compete with you. Signing Pogba for double his worth just looked desperate. It's the kind of thing I could understand when City tried to break into the big time wasting money on the likes of robinho, but United shouldn't need to spend that sort of cash with a player in all likely hood few were interested in past 40m.

Everyone is expecting us to be a Mourinho side, that isn't happening, not much is at the moment.

It's easy to be critical but you aren't offering a view on what you think the club should be doing.

And we shouldn't forget the season has barely started.

I have plenty of faith in him.

Quite why he's not benching Rooney is a concern though, it's clear as day the team can't move forward with him in it.

There must surely be some form of contractual obligation, either through Rooney's contract itself or some form of main sponsorship deal with the club, to continue playing him because he is shockingly bad. All his good attributes have gone and been replaced with bad tackling and even worse passing!

Im not sure Mourinho know's his best 11 yet or the formation to get the best out of the good players, these things take time to figure out though. I think UTD's wing areas are weak, you don't seem to have skilful out and out wing players, centrally, you have good players, down the sides i think you're lacking.

Ironically, i think Watford's 3-4-1-2 would suit UTD quite well.

Well it appears the media have finally turned on him after todays game but what else can United do apart from support him? I've said before that Moyes' biggest mistake might be giving Rooney the lengthy contract he did. What other club is going to pay him 300k a week at this point? nobody even seems to know his best position anymore because he struggles to justify his wage in any of them. All they can do now is back him to break those records and then milk him commercially whilst praying he finds some form without damaging his reputation too much.

Tinfoil hat I know but at this point I wouldn't even be surprised if Ferguson walked because the club wouldn't allow him to get rid, he never allowed any player to be bigger than the club but Rooney appears to have become just that.

What's happened to Bailly? He looked half decent in the first few games but against City and again today he was beyond dreadful.

Smalling is next to him instead of Blind. There's also no protection in front of the centre backs, for the first two Watford goals the scorers were in about 15 yards of space on the edge of the box.
