Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 18th September 2016]

Blind is naturally a DM and a good passer of the ball. Even give Schweinsteiger a go, he's got a lot of quality still, just none of the legs. He's a leader.

------------Blind
------Pogba - Herrera
Mkhitaryan-Zlatan-Rashford

Pogba this,Pogba that....Pogba cost 100 MILLION. He should look half decent anywhere in the midfield..the fact is he doesn't.

Yeah it's pretty hilarious seeing the defence force in full effect for him.

I suspect he will improve a little bit eventually they'll realise how much they overpaid for him.

I wish people wouldn't say that, everyone just started saying it with no proof. When I saw Bastian play he was running back for every defence and getting in the box to win headers. He was box to box and hadn't become unable to run. He might run less than he used to but still plenty. He works crazy hard, always did. Likewise people treat him as a pure DM but he loves bursting forwards. Multiple times in Utd games if he saw a chance to pressure a CB into a mistake he'd burst forwards 20 yards to close them but no one else did it with him. he's used to a better team that will press and win the ball back high up the pitch. He will also as said burst forward to support a counter attack.

He's like Lampard, people call him fat but that fat **** never stopped running and was constantly working hard to support the team both offensively and defensively. Yes Bastian is more defensive/central mid while Lampard was more of an ACM, but they are both really box to box in that sense. Either way, running like a headless chicken is worthless, Bastian ran to the right places at the right time. Rooney runs all over the place but has no clue what he's doing.

So far Utd barely beat Hull and beat Bournemouth and Southampton, neither playing at all well. Then they were completely outplayed by City, Watford and I didn't see how good/bad they were in the Europa as I was travelling back from Hastings. They just look poor and have only beaten 'meh' teams. The quality difference to City and even Watford... ouch.

I hope it's the fact the team had no real pre-season.

I'm also hoping he'll get the team sorted soon and we start winning soon

I mentioned his legs as the perception is that he's now very slow etc. I don't really believe that myself. I'd like to see him given a chance, it's truly bizarre why we've just written him off. :( I think he'd do well next to Pogba.

Bastian, Morgan and Pogba, with Herrera rotated for maybe any of them, would be a great midfield if actually given games and time to gel. Morgan can burst forward to support as well, all three can be good defensively, all three can contribute offensively, all three can play the ball forward fast. With Pogba you have a specialist in bursting forward and supporting, with the other two you just have the guys who can support when required. Two are great defensively and Pogba can support defensively if he needs to.

Fellaini and Rooney just suck, they are slow on the ball, make the wrong passing choice, they are bad at supporting the attack(the odd goal doesn't change them ruining attack after attack all game, every game). Again I'll mention Toure, despite him at his best being excellent, without him the team have a reliable offence where everyone knows their role, play faster, can rely on support and movement and don't have a player who is constantly MIA.

Chelsea are also self sabotaging. Matic was horrific again yesterday(bar the goal), he's another defensive mid who can burst forward effectively but the f365 round up had it spot on. he's so bad defensively at the moment he shouldn't be in the team for that and if he's in the team to burst forward, he basically did it once all game. Fabregas is far far better offensively and actually over the past year, he's better defensively also. No idea what happened to Matic but he's become a joke of a defensive midfielder. Two top teams with significantly better players on the bench both struggling to play good football, both actively choosing to play out of form/bad players in central mid hurting the entire team.

I always think Pogba has worked best when he is part of a midfield trio, not a pair (an example of this was with France at the World Cup, and his best form for Juve was when part of a midfield trio).

He played with Marchisio, Vidal & Pirlo. At United he's playing with Fellaini and a past his sell by date Rooney. Fergie wanted rid of Rooney, Moyes came in and gave him a 5 year contract and now look at him.

He's useless for England and United, Mourinho needs to ditch him the way he ditched Casillas a much bigger icon at Real Madrid than Rooney ever will be.

United are awful, totally devoid of any ideas whatsoever. I thought City under Pep would take time to shine and United would hit the ground running. Total opposite so far.

Wow, Stoke and West Ham have done some pretty severe u-turns this season. Stoke being destroyed, West Ham having lost a couple games badly.

Palace turning things around themselves, remembering how to score.

EDIT:- To be fair, Stoke had a horrible run to the start of the season, got a point away at an enthusiastic Boro in good form then had City, Everton and Spurs where two of those teams spanked them and the Everton game was only 1-0. Off the back a run of defeats turning things around isn't always easy even against a weaker team. Will see how then do in the next month or two with some of the easier games and a change to get some form maybe.

West Ham is a bit worse, losing to Chelsea and City, understandable, losing to Watford and West brom by conceding 4 to each is pretty damn terrible regardless.
