Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 18th September 2016]

Hughes has done a Martinez at Stoke. He's tried to introduce fast flowing football at the expense of the solid foundation he inherited from Pulis. As with Martinez and Everton last year, it looks like Hughes has finally destroyed their defence.

First half today

79% pass accuracy,
0 chances created,
0 take-ons,
0 interceptions
0 tackles won

But but but hes not in the right system!

It's not just the system, he's clearly playing poorly too (along with the entire team). I don't think anyone is disputing this?

If you think he's a bad player then just say so.

Schweinsteiger is no longer under Mourinho, so we can count him out unfortunately.

That leaves Blind, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Carrick and Pogba. Plenty of quality there just need to use / utilise it.

I never understood the 100mil price tag. Admittedly I watch limited Italian football but I have never seen him play good once.

I know things are a bit mad with the money floating around but for £89m I would still expect a Ronaldo, Messi, or at the least a Suarez, Neymar, Bale type of player. Someone who can single handedly win you matches.

Pogba may become that player (although admittedly it's harder to do from the position he plays), but at the moment he is nowhere near those I mentioned above.

Moses made the point a lot during the summer, they paid ott to blow any other club interested out of the water. Had they offered sensible money then Real or PSG may have come in for him and then they'd have struggled to convince him to join them. It's very similar to when you signed Owen - at £17m there was no competition for his signature.

I suppose the question is whether Utd should have been in a Pogba or bust position at all - were there other options out there?

Surely though if you go all "cracking nuts with sledgehammers" you do it for someone like who I said above who is all but guaranteed to bring you goals.

I can't understand breaking the transfer record for a player who most wouldn't put in their world XI.

You can't just go out and buy those top tier players, especially in our position, so you have to gamble on potential. Pogba is more than just potential though, he's a very good player who can become a great player.

It's mental to be writing him off now, let's see how it goes. The whole team is dreadful.

I agree and said as much during the summer.
