Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 20th August 2014]-LvGOUT!

I think the point he was making is that spurs midfield is average, but still better than man utds

Exactly the point I was making.

Don't always need world beaters, even if you are United.

When Carrick returns they will be a far better outfit.

Being able to call on Valencia rather than Nani will also help.

I don't think this 352 formation will ever prosper in this league again, not sure why he wants to use it just because it served well for the Netherlands.

QPR are trying to use it too and even got Hoddle in, but you'll see them struggle too.

Hate to say it, but Wenger has it spot on with his newer 4141 as a transitional formation. That or 4231 with widemen who can create or score.

It could work if you had the right personal but you don't,

You'd think one of the players would just grab him instead of standing there like morons while hes chased.

Why lose concentration on the game by chasing some random guy?

Why risk getting injured if he decides to turn around and belt them, or go 'full Suarez'?

Why risk prosecution if he gets hurt when they tackle him? (I assume none of the players are qualified security personnel).

It's not their job or their responsibility. They are not legally covered to tackle people - match security officials are. Standing around and waiting for play to resume is all that the players can do. Common sense really.

Liverpool 11:

-----------------Mignolet
Manquillo----Skrtel--Lovren----Johnson
-------------Gerrard-Lucas
----Hendo------Coutinho------Sterling
-----------------Sturridge

It'll be interesting to see if this system will be a regular thing or if it's just a short term thing while Lallana and Markovic are out and then we'll move back to a 4-3-3.

That is a 4-3-3 I reckon,

------Gerrard-----
Hendo--------Lucas
Coutinho --- Sturridge --- Sterling

I'll be surprised. We played a 4-2-3-1 vs Dortmund and I guess the thinking is that without a natural attacker on the right, Rodgers wants to get Coutinho as close to Sturridge as possible. If it were a 4-3-3 then Allen or maybe Can would have started in place of Lucas.
Lucas over Can is a weird one but strong team regardless.

Rodgers is quoted in the Sunday Times as saying that he doesn't want to throw too many in too early and a few of the younger players will be eased into the side over the first few months.

Could be 4-4-2? He tried Lucas further forward at the end of last season.

-----------Gerrard-----------
Henderson-------------Lucas
-----------Coutinho---------
-----Sturridge---Sterling-----
