Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 21st January 2015]

Arsenal haven't been that good, just City have been awful.

Arsenal have used their heads today and sat back and defended well. If they went all out I bet they would be losing. So no City haven't been awful they just haven't been allowed to be effective, their key men Aguero and Silva have hardly had a touch.

Arsenal were allowed to look comfortable, City weren't pressing well at all, there was zero urgency in their attack and they were horrible in trying to get behind or flood down the wings and get the ball wide with people into the box.

That City have entirely changed the direction of this game in this half based on changing their game suggests Arsenal had not an awful lot to do with it. City often have these slow laboured performances over the past couple years.

If Navas wasn't a selfish moron with crap delivery they've had two or three excellent positions where they had free man or two in the box where a good delivery would have meant a very good chance at goal. Instead we've had a terrible Navas shot and two terrible crosses from him hitting the first man.

Not much different from West Ham earlier, City just weren't up to pace with the game in the slightest in the first half, this half most have woken up and they look by quite far the stronger team this half... unfortunately an awake or asleep Navas is still crap... crap for them, good for us.

Ox/Sanchez lose the ball SO often when trying to run longer distances, OX again has done so little, lots of running but the final ball is rubbish. Gets out wide against a slow CB and runs directly at him when he could have run 5 yards past him easily, does it all the time.

It's not about MC changing shape and speed of play, Arsenal have fallen for it and opened up their own play as well. Could be a risky move for them

Neville getting upset because Arsenal are trying to counter.

Neville I feel is quite good when showing videos and highlighting where players should have been, who turned off, but commentry.. meh. He's insisting Arsenal has changed how they played, they haven't.

THe first half City just played at a very slow tempo and really didn't get in behind or commit too many forwards so Arsenal actually were the team being pegged back by City holding it in midfield and passing it side to side rather than trying to rush at them. Had City done that Arsenal would play on the counter as they are doing this half. It was City playing so slowly and so poorly that meant the game wasn't ripe for counter attacking play though Arsenal still did break forwards frequently... the difference is City weren't breaking back against Arsenal at pace so Arsenal looked pretty comfortable when going backwards. This half that changed entirely, not because Arsenal changed anything but because City did.

Arsenal bringing on Rosicky, not sure on the thinking behind that.

He's probably been our best player offensively of recent, all these times Sanchez runs 40 yards and gets tackled by the first guy he actually tries to beat, or Ox runs anywhere and screws up, or Cazorla ran up the wing and made a crap pass... Rosicky was getting in similar positions and making a good pass rather than a crap one, something the rest of the team is badly struggling with.

Exactly. He acts like everything is a tactical decision and not just a pattern of play.
