Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 21st January 2015]

Falcao needs to start doing better soon or he should be sent home at the end of the season. To be honest, he would have to have a blinding second half of the season to merit the figure he would cost.

I only half saw the replay for the disallowed Vert goal for Spurs, was he in his own half when the pass went forward for him or was he over the half way line and then there was a single defender back(presume keeper was up for a corner?)?

i'm interested in why the linesman flagged

i get there has to be keeper and a another but vert came from our box defending the corner

Not keeper, just two opposition players and the keeper in like 99/100 situations counts as one of them, but any two players. But it looked to me like he was in his own half when the pass was played, if that was the case it's not offside.

He was 5 yards (!!!!!) inside his own half.

I thought it was impossible to be offside if you are behind the ball or in your own half.

Edit - notwithstanding the disallowed goal, the ref was awful today. Sunderland were really shafted; a number of decisions went out way when they were obviously Sunderland's. It made it hard for them to build up any pressure.

Cavani (or who ever else we buy) is going to cost approximately the same amount according to reports, so the figure is a non-issue imo

Its about whether he starts getting a real understanding between Di Maria, Rooney, Mata etc or not and starts putting away reasonable chances.

He has got until mid-feb to start on a run, otherwise its just not going to work out

Jesus, the thing is, why on earth hasn't the ref overruled the linesman there, can he himself not tell that Vert is in his own freaking half and therefore it's certainly not offside.

For the linesman and the ref with a clear and unobstructed view to get that call so wrong is pathetic. Honestly I swear the refs who i never remotely regarded as doing well before have been a significantly worse in the past few months. I do half wonder if refs aren't screwing up more on purpose to try and get them to implement a video replay system sooner. They worse they do the more people will back moving to some kind of three challenges style system.

Very similar game to the Sunderland game. Very good first half and should have been out of sight but failing to do so nearly cost us in the 2nd half.

Lucas struggled 2nd half but in defence of him we were getting out numbered in midfield and with 1 of Villa's forwards dropping off they were constantly getting behind our midfield and putting balls into the box.

He didn't have many saves to make but I thought Mignolet had one of his best games in ages. He was much more positive today and commanded his area as well as I can remember, catching a fair few crosses and relieving a lot of the pressure we were under. There was still 1 mistake though when he tried to punch a ball that wasn't their to win but all things considered and with how he's been playing it was decent performance.

Really pleased with Henderson for our first goal. That's the sort of thing he needs to be doing more of. Previously, and I mentioned it after the City game at the start of the season, he'd get the ball in those positions and wouldn't have the confidence to play the killer pass straight away and would instead take a touch and the attack would fizzle out.

Baz calling how he should be used well

Just like vs Southampton on the opening day. We were getting pinned back in our half and had no out ball. Lambert gave us the option of going long and we were able to relieve the pressure.

I am struggling to see how the lineman missed it. I suspect he actually forgot the rules.

Either way the decision was appalling. I'm glad it didn't have an influence on the result
