Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 22nd August 2011]

Any Man City fans (or anyone else for that matter) know if Tevez is back for this week? Really want to get him in my dream team but not outlaying the points if he isn't back.

Also ManU fans, is Evra back for Monday? Heard he is but again don't want him in my team if he isn't playing.

It seems quite clear from the vid caps that it was an eye poke/gouge but personally it would have been much funnier if he had just tweaked his ear. :p

So Vidic is apparently going to be out for roughly 5 weeks but Rio should be back for next Sunday's game against Arsenal. Evra is back for the Spurs game though. Hope to see us line up like this on Monday;

---------------De Gea---------------
Smalling---Jones----Evans---Evra
Nani----Carrick----Giggs----Young
---------------Rooney---------------
------------------Berbatov----------

Subs: Lindegaard, Fabio, Cleverley, Anderson, Park, Welbeck, Owen

I'll go with a 1-0 win for us, Nani scoring against them again

Not so sure we will see Berbatov starting.

Sir Alex will again place his trust in youth when Tottenham travel to Old Trafford on Monday night.

The boss was pleased with the display in the 2-1 win at West Brom with the likes of Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck grasping their opportunity. With Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand injured, there will also be an unfamiliar look to the defence with Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling set to start.

"The team on Monday will be a very young defensive line-up, with Jones and Evans in the centre and Smalling at right-back," revealed the manager. "But Patrice Evra will be back for Spurs, which gives us experience.

"David De Gea will learn from the experience of the games he's had so far. We'll also have Cleverley and Welbeck. So it's a very young team at the moment, but it's a team full of energy and it's a team of great ability. I'm enjoying watching them at the moment.

"I'm not worried about the young players filling in at the back. Evans has ample experience, of course, and has been at the club since he was 12 years old. He's played plenty of first-team games

"Phil Jones has the experience of playing for Blackburn last season in the Barclays Premier League and I thought he and Chris Smalling were the stars for England Under-21s in the summer. Chris had a fantastic first season and he's continued his progress this year.

"So I have no issues whatsoever with playing those guys. We brought in Phil Jones at 19, David De Gea at 20 and Ashley Young at 25. We're happy with the age of the squad."

Also, here's some injury quotes:

"Rafael has had an operation [on his shoulder] this week and will be out for 10 weeks. It was a freak injury really. He won a tackle [in training], stumbled and fell on his shoulder.

"Patrice is back which gives us experience. Chicharito is back training and doing very well as is Valencia who will play in the reserves next week.

"When will we bring Chicharito back? It depends. From a medical point of view, considering he had a concussion before, we have to decide when is the best time to bring him back.

"Darren Fletcher had a game the other night, so he's back and doing well. He'll play maybe one more game in the reserves and then should be ready for the first team. So there are a few there, but they're all on the mend, we hope."

Hope to see Hernandez back soon and see how/where he fits in this side.

Cant see Welbeck starting myself, it didn't really work out for him at West Brom and with the inexperience in defence I would imagine Fergie will want to put in as much experience elsewhere as possible.

I've given up trying to predict what he will do, really. I think there is a major focus on youth though, so Danny starting would not come as a surprise.

Wilshere, Diaby, Djourou, Gibbs, Traore (injuries) Song and Gervinho (suspended) Rosicky (rested!) all out of the Liverpool Game.

Nasri in the squad :/ He'll get a good reception...

So both Jenkinson and Frimpong to make their full debut's. Ryo is in the squad which is good.

Wenger's just confirmed that Djourou, Gibbs & Rosicky will all miss the Liverpool game, obviously Song & Gervinho are suspended, I assume Wilshire is still missing and despite Nasri close to signing for City he is in the squad. I'll have a crack at what the team Arsenal may field;

---------------Szczesny---------------
Sagna--Squillaci--Koscielny--Vermaelen
---------------Frimpong---------------
-----Ramsey-------------Arshavin-----
Walcott-------------------------Van Persie
---------------Chamakh---------------

With the right service Carroll is going to have a field day with that defence

"Wenger: “If you look at the players we have brought in, they are all top-quality players”

**** off Wenger. No offence to anyone we've bought, but other than spamhead they're all unproven kids. I never want my team to lose, but I'm actively expecting to get pasted tomorrow, by United as well, then crash out against Udinese away, having bought nobody else and sold half the squad with most of the rest of it injured. Where's the white flag? Wouldn't be surprised if we're still in the bottom half of the table at Christmas.

I'd hope to see this:

---------------Szczesny---------------
Sagna---Koscielny--Vermaelen----Jenkinson
---------------Frimpong---------------
-----Ramsey-------------Arshavin-----
Walcott-------------------------Ryo--
---------------RvP--------------------

Hopefully our team will be this the below, but knowing Kenny who knows?
---------Reina
Kelly--Carra--Agger--Enrique
------Lucas--Adam
Kuyt---Suarez----Downing
---------Carroll

No Barnes, Rush or Aldridge?

Really tempted, obviously, but the buggers let themselves go in pre-season and can't run the length of the pitch without running out of breath!
Unprofessional :(

-edit-
few staff from LFCtv tweeting that the word from their buddies at Arsenal is that Vermaelen will be playing LB.. yes please!

Doesn't look *that* weak. Obviously Jenkinson is really raw but I fancy him to make much more of an impact than Gibbs who can't even stay fit for two first team games. I hope Frimpong keeps his cool and doesn't get a stupid card.

You better not start Kuyt, I've just taken him out of my FF team after his no show last week. Seems to me Dalglish likes his 3 in midfield so I reckon the same starting XI as last week especially as you're away from home.

Be good to see Kuyt start mainly as he has more experince than Henderson however i sense still be Henderson and Kuyt to come on depending how game pans out.

Still confident we can get the 3pts which have evaded us for so long at there ground.

I'll tell Arsene, maybe we can get them on a short term loan deal, we need the players!

Kuyt's surely nailed on to start, big game player and Henderson's done nothing Kuyt couldn't have done so far, but plenty of stuff worse then Kuyt would have.
