Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 22nd August 2011]

FT Arsenal 0-2 Liverpool

Despite the win I'm very worried about the season ahead. That starting 11 isn't good enough to get us in the top four so if Suarez picks up an injury and is out for any length of time we're in big trouble.

That Arsenal team was one of the worst we've played in years yet we never looked like scoring until Suarez came on. Yes we kept possession well but the lack of movement, pace and creativity in the team is extremely worrying given the amount of money we've spent. It's also incredibly frustrating to see the likes of Meireles on the bench and Aquilani not even in the squad. Please don't tell me Henderson and Adams are better than those two because they're not.

Kenny did a fantastic job in the second half of last season but this is his team and it hasn't impressed me one bit so far.

Reina - Nothing to do.
Kelly - Fantastic game and begs the question, why didn't he play last week?
Carragher - Nothing to do.
Agger - Nothing to do but having him back in the team and fit is a massive bonus. Has a calming influence on the back four.
Enrique - Great in defence and fantastic in attack. Deserved MotM.
Lucas - A few rash tackles but looked the most composed player on the ball and coped with everything Arsenal threw at him.
Adams - Looks like a world beater with time and space but as soon as he's closed down he struggles. Would be concerned having him in the team against the better teams.
Henderson - Anonymous? One for the future but we've got much better on the bench.
Kuyt - Not a good game. Left Carroll completely isolated up front and didn't link up play well. Starting ahead of Aquilani? :o
Downing - Looks like a very good signing. Quick and has a fantastic cross on him but his game relies on Carroll playing well which he didn't.
Carroll - Focal point of every attack so when he struggles, as he did today, the whole team will struggle. Doesn't look like he's suited to the lone role so either play a second striker or drop him.

*Awaits BaZ to rip my post to pieces* :p

Reina did make on great save with his feet, staying alert after being asleep most of the match.

I didn't think Henderson was that bad, perhaps in the final third looked a little lost but getting it up there i thought he was good and playing it up from the back.

What is wrong with saying that? I think it's a fair statement when you don't take it out of context...

I think Essien likes to go forward much more and I don't think he seems as aggressive either.

Frimpong just looks a bit too much like a Balotelli type player for Arsenal :p

Jamie Redknapp is ready to crack one off right in the studio, its quite embarrassing. You just know he wants to mention something about going for the title :p

Indeed!

If spending 110m on some players isn't good enough to build on what you had last season and get in the top 4, with arsenal fans crying about now being a midfield team then Kenny should be executed not sacked by seal team 6. ;)

Anything other than atleast fourth with what he's spent would be a complete failure.

Whilst i agree with most of that can you please stop putting Adams when its Adam!!! :p

The comments of mid-table finish are a bit ridiculous to be honest, but we do need another CB, a left back and a creative central midfielder. We're two games into the season with a lot of players missing, it's not as if we've played 30 odd games and we're in the bottom half.

Henderson's solid in my opinion, but nothing more. I like the idea of having him as an "engine" on the right, who will let Johnson bomb up and down when he's fit again. Needs to show a bit more, but he can learn.

Jesus the knee jerk reactions in this thread already from people and the Arsenal fans are even worse. Haven't Manu started badly in the last few years and had their fans right off any title hopes after 3-6 games.

People saying Arsenal mid table etc, get a grip for ****s sake.

What an ungratefull bunch of ****s. Why can't you just get it in your heads you don't have the money to compete with the signings others are making and be happy with a manager get the best out of what you have.

The only difference is that when Utd sell players they buy replacements. It has already been mentioned that we do have money to spend. We all knew Fab was going and suspected that Nasri might too.

I don't think we should fire Wenger. I would just like him to buy someone. We are in danger of losing CL spot unless we spend soon.

After all the players are gone we could have very close to £100m with our initial money for transfers. Why would you not buy some players?

I don't think he's been bad by any means, in fact I think he'll go on to be a great player for us, but with Adams and Lucas sitting in front of the defence I expected more from a player playing in his position.

Unlucky lose for Arsenal in mu view, all changed when Frimpong got sent off.
Not that displeased with Arsenal to be honest, I think once we have our full team out AND we make a couple of decent signings, we will be back in with a shout!
We have to SPEND though, without doubt!!
Frimpong is going to be a blinding player and exactly what Arsenal need, someone to sit in front of the defense and come out hard. Verm had a fantastic game! Theo was shocking along with Arshavin.
Not all doom and gloom.

Bahahaha, Frimpong is going to be a blinding player? Red card most games, he'll be shockingly bad.

Lets see, what happened in this game that was unpredictable....... nothing.

Frimpong getting sent off, a CB getting injured, Theo being useless, Nasri being selfish, RVP having to drop into midfield, getting no support and no delivery, Sagna being miles up the field and out of position costing us a goal, no one tracking runs into the box, Verm being a rock and Bendtner bring brought on way way way too late.

Just about everything about that performance was a joke, unlucky to lose?

Did no one else realise Kenny's plan was always to bring on their big guns late and hammer us at the end? We couldn't cope with Liverpools putting a few second string players out and were lucky to be level, Frimpong was lucky to stay on as long as he did.

Pong did improve, for 35 minutes he was outstandingly poor, passing, tackling, fouls, mouthing off stupidly and several other fouls that should have got him his red in the first half. He at points passed quite well, but you're mistaking his "driving runs then falling on his arse" for the fouls that were gifted to him when he lost balance when shooting.

Ramsey again looked not a patch on Wilshire or Fabregas and no where near ready to "lead" the team in midfield.

Attrocious performance, only made look slightly less poor by a pretty poor Liverpool performance.

Enrique man of the match, because he kept Theo in his pocket? If someone had thrown their prawn sandwitch on the right wing Theo would have had a hard time beating it today. ARsenal were horrific and a "great" performance by Liverpool and we'd have lost by 5+ goals. Even Suarez/Meireles, they were playing against 10 men, with Sagna caught up the field, with a lazy/given up by then Nasri, Ramsey who was crap and Lansbury who won't ever be good enough and none of them tracked back, none of them took on the DM role after the idiot got sent off(for something that could have been a straight red).

Pathetic. With every single fault down to Wenger's ineptitude.

Wilshere and Gervinho are the only decent players missing.

Everyone else who's out are equal to or worse than what we had out today.

You haven't got 100 million for transfers, just the same as when Ronaldo was sold, United fans on here kept doing the simple math. £80m for ronaldo and our usual £30-40 million OMG we have £110m to spend. The money dissapeared.

I was under the impression you had a debt to pay off.

You have a budget for the season which will include wages, you cannot simply add up all the money thats come in and not think about wages and debt to come up with what you can spend.

To think you have 100m for transfers is ludicrous.

Anyone think we might see Arsenal semi-park the bus against Udinese to just protect their lead? Would be catastrophic for them to miss out on the CL.

You have to admit though it is worrying times. I honestly can't see us signing anyone at the moment. I would be shocked if we got in a couple of players in before the end of the month. And we certainly don't want to be playing Utd next week. Song, Frimpong and Gervinho suspended. Low on confidence. :(

Wednesday is the key match for us now. If we make it through I will be happy. Nevermind lets hope the team pull together and turn it around.
