We were a top 4 club for about 5-7 years. Never won the permier league but that puts us in the same group as every team bar Arsenal, ManU and Chelsea (yeah Blackburn but we don't count that :D)

Just because your ******* bought a title or two doesn't make you a big club, even the SMB's get bigger home crowds than your glory hunting pack of nobodies, when Roman goes bye bye you will be back to being the nobodies/ worst London club you deserve to be.

Lol, from a Newcastle fan.

Care to clarify? Because nothingI said was false.

"Top club." Jog on, mate. You finished 12th last season, and finished where the season before that? Lol. And you're 12th now.

Top club.

Give me a break.

Sunderland finished 10th last season. They must be a "top club" too.

Why do you bother posting? You never have anything good to say about anything other than Newcastle.

Newcastle have never been a big club because they've only won 4 League titles and 6 FA Cups. Who wants to remind Gustov how many times Chelsea have won the League and FA Cup? ;)

It's sad yet ironic that the very guy that took us to such lofty heights is largely to blame for what I expect to be the club's worst period for 15 years. As Arseblog said, the result is a direct result of the lack of investment in the side (which was promised at the start of the summer). The boos at the end weren't aimed at the players or performance, and we'll be hearing them again every game until the window shuts (and probably beyond) unless essential purchases are made.

The squad hasn't looked this weak in my memory as a fan; even in the post CL-final 2006 clear out we were in better shape. Other than Wojech, Verm (10 headed clearances, 88% passing success, 3 tackles, 5 interceptions, 1 block, 3 shots, 0 fouls - not bad), Wilshere and RVP, there's nobody else I'd want regularly in the starting XI from the entirety of the squad list. There's some good prospects, a lot of mediocrity, and a couple of inconsistent but possibly capable of being great ones, but that's all they are at the moment.

It's looking very bleak and I really cannot see how this team is supposed 'come good' when it looks so wafer-thin, inexperienced and to top it off, bereft of confidence. Can't see anyone good being bought in what remains of the window because a) left it too late b) anything we can offer can be bettered by clubs with more £ than us, which makes getting top quality v. difficult c) Wenger has gone senile.

Nasri will be off shortly, Bender will probably be running for the door if he wasn't walking already and with the next two games posing much more of a challenge than today's and the squad even more depleted, things are only going to get worse.

Gustov says they've never been. I agree, they've never been a top club but as Gustov has proven, neither have Chelsea :)

Bizarre statement. Chelsea won the league in this century. Newcastle have not. That alone says otherwise.

Also, the ref is on crack. That should have been a penalty.

Toress plays too deep in this formation imo

I cant see them getting best out of Torres anyway when he is paired with another striker he works best with some one just behind like he did for us when Gerrard was behind and Torres had all the space he wanted.

Chelsea dont allow him to do that imo.

Why is it a bizarre statement? Gustov's reasoning for Newcastle never being a big club was their trophy haul and of the only 2 trophies of any note that either club have won, Chelsea's record is the same as Newcastle's.

Imo, to be a big club you've got to have won the European Cup or at least won the league a lot more than 4 times.

No point telling you as you already know.

Winning the league 4 times and finishing runners up 4 times is something Newcastle haven't come close to doing in over 80 years.

I can understand your point as I said 'never' but 80 years ago when you and the newcastle fan you're defending weren't even alive...hmm.

A Liverpool fan agreeing with a Liverpool fan on OCUK. What has the world come to

Liverpool and United are the only 2 genuine 'big' clubs in the EPL. No doubt that Arsenal and Chelsea are the two other clubs who would be up for consideration.
