Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 22nd August 2011]

Just watched both our goals again and Meireles looked ****ed off while celebrating the first goal too. Not sure what that's all about.

I agree pretty much with you assessment of todays game (although I thought Adam had a better game than you'll give him credit for)
If he plays well I'll happily praise him but he's going to have to play well in a hell of a lot of matches this season (as well as dye his hair and lose weight :p) for me to change my opinion of him.

I can only think it might relate to him possibly leaving? Not sure i hope he doesnt but our midfield does need cutting down and unfortunately i wouldn't be surprised if he is off despite how well he has done thus far.

At least Brentford won 5-0 today, Arsenal, no idea. Everton fans have a right to feel aggrieved, but imagine you did have WELL over 50mil to spend, even more money in cash the manager could almost certainly persuade the board to sell and you'd just sold, Cahill without having replaced him, even though you knew Cahill was to be sold all summer long........ then you have Arsenal :(

(I was going with the idea that Cahill is probably your most important player due to the goals he gets)

Everton do generally start off really crap though don't they, Arsenal haven't started off not scoring for 2 games in 42 years.

I heard a huge sigh of relief from Kuyt the day Adam signed :p

If that was the case then that would mean the finger was aimed at the bench. Would he be that stupid? I doubt it.

And who knows whether there is or was any truth in the rumours he might be sold. I could understand the reasons that were being reported (bit part player, at an age where it would be the last time to get a decent fee for him) but those rumours have died down and imo, with us only signing the 1 wide player rather than the 2 we hoped/expected, his ability to play on the right could be useful.

Amazed to pick up 3 points at Goodison today, I wasn't expecting the season to start properly until new owner Fernandes started spending over the next few days. QPR top London side now in 8th!!! ;)

I thought it might have been some kind of joke but if you watch the celebration after the first goal, Raul seems ****ed off about something then too.

KD also talks about Meireles having missed lots of pre season and that we now need to get him up to speed. Sounds promising.

Yea. I mentioned earlier that Meireles only played 45 minutes all pre-season and that was right at the start of pre-season too. However, Dalglish also talks very positively about all our players.

I doubt it too im clinching at straws as to why he swore i think it was just Banter personally but that's only other logical reason i think there is.

We shall see either way but good weekend for us over all :D

EDIT - Too slow explained above

See, no one came at me. Lameos.

Because you're simply wrong, thats why, Frimpong did in no way look good enough, his two marauding runs forward, he fell over the first time with minor contact, it was his shooting at full speed that sent him down, the second time, no idea, not even close to a foul. He should have been off in the first half, and he's Song mk 2, should be sent off almost every game for needless stupid fouls, its the sheer volume rather than the nastiness or anything, though the second yellow today was pretty close to being a straight red, he was no where near the ball.

Gervinho could be good, but he's been woeful so far and continue to be. Jenkinson could be good, but he's a right back and when/if Gibbs get fit, Wenger will stick him on the bench. Ryo won't play much if at all this season, Theo is woeful, Arshavin looks like he's given up, RVP is useless upfront on his own. Jenkinson looks okay but is way worse than Clichy, Frimpong is a joke, Ramsey looked very poor.

Who have we really got to come back from injury/suspension who will play in the first team. Gibbs, worse than what we had today, Song, no different to Frimpong, Gervinho, worse than Arshavin(who had one really awful game). Nasri who started is probably off in the next 2-3 days, Bendtner who was the only person who we got a long ball to all game, is due to leave.

Sorry but now, Wenger is mad, completely. Anyone with an ounce of sense knows Djourou, Gibbs, Rosicky, Theo and to a degree RVP can't be relied on to be fit for more than honestly, 1/3 of the season, yet we've gone into the season with all of them being required to be basically first team, 3 of those are already injured, one of them is rubbish, and one is utterly wasted upfront on his own.

Song and Frimpong can't be trusted to stay on the pitch and Wilshire, was supposed to be out with a very minor knock for 3 days MAX, no idea whats even wrong with him.

In my opinion we need another centre back, a left back, a proper defensive midfielder, a creative central midfielder and a forward. There's no point in me talking about it at length though because I don't really believe Wenger will spend the money. Instead of him seeing Fabregas and potentially Nasri missing from the squad he just looks at Ramsey and Wilshere and assumes everything will be fine. You can't lose players of Fabregas' quality and expect a teenager to step into his boots, I can totally understand that he wants to give his younger players a chance but there are times when you simply have to pull your cheque book out and find a suitable replacement.

Fabregas was a key man, he's gone and I think when Ramsey matures he will become a good central midfielder but he's not a Cesc or a Mata or a Modric or anyone anywhere near that level, he's still a kid learning the game, there's no way he should be starting every match for us, especially when they are important ones like today. He needs someone to learn off, who is he learning off right now for example? Nasri is halfway out the door, Fabregas has gone and pretty much everyone else is around the same age group as him.

Same with left back, he won't buy because he wants to give Gibbs a chance, I totally understand this but the way to do it is to give him half hour of the second half, then maybe give him the odd start and slowly introduce him to the first team while already having an established and experienced left back. Instead we just chuck him straight in knowing full well he's made of glass and then he gets injured within the first two games...

Cause rest of Arsenals fans have gone to a cave to hide or create a new we hate wenger thread :p

Remind me what the Liverpool fans did when Hodgson tried to get the club relegated? :p

Hate threads too but imo he should have never got the job in the first place i will never rate him as a manager at all.

His short spell with us was just a complete disaster from the day he entered the place.

To be fair I've always praised Kuyt for his work rate and effort, he's a fantastic athlete, but his limitations as a footballer have always been the problem. He should be one of the first names on the team sheet against the very best teams, because he'll always pressure defenders in to making mistakes, but an unused sub against the rest.

Funnily enough I think the opposite is true of Adams. He looks very good on the ball when given time but when pressurised his game falls to pieces. He'll be a very valuable player against the lesser teams but he shouldn't get anywhere near the team against the very best until we see a drastic improvement in his ability to retain possession as well as his fitness levels.
