Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 22nd August 2011]

As part of a three? If so with who as the more defensive player - Im just thinking wouldnt that be too attack minded if it was part of a four with two wide players?
totally agree with DanH /you though on Euro/WC thoughts

Not sure tbh, perhaps Rodwell? Could end up playing a different formation, not sure what good young wingers we have.

I'd sod Terry off as well though. I'd happily advocate whoesale changes right now. Hell is you could shoehorn him in I'd even give Henderson a chance to slot in.

+ That's me who still thinks that when fit Ferdinand is the best cb in the world who's saying I'd drop him with an eye on the future.

With the Euro's coming up I can't see big changes just yet but if Jones keeps playing like he has, it will be hard to see Ferdinand getting back into the Utd or England side.

Before I get screamed at, I'm not having a pop at Ferdinand! However with his fitness problems, it might be better for Jones + Vidic and Jones + Terry to have a run of games together, as it looks like that will be Utd & Englands CB pairings for the next few years.

Totally agree with you - I dont think Utd can rely on Rio to be fit (if he is for any given game then great, but with consistancy being so key at the back, it wont be that much longer before Rio is 3rd or 4th choice, esp now he isnt captain)

United team look good, fringe players look sound, these guys playing with the likes of Vidic/Ferdi and the mid fielders and attackers, will be very strong in the prem for years to come, Man United/Man City for the title this year.

Keeper is the only weak link so far.

I'm not Terry's biggest fan but he's still performing at a high level and there's no sign that his performances or fitness are going to tail off any time soon.

You've also got to remember that Capello's going after the Euros so he's not going to have an eye on the future.

Jones and Wilshere are the only youngsters I can see having much of a role in the next year or so.

Good shout - although he has to prove he is over his injuries from last season (didnt he miss most of it with one injury after another)

(waits for someone to suggest Chamberlain.....who is another few steps behind imo....but I cant think of any young wingers in the gap between....Walcott, flatters to decieve sometimes.....)

Genuinely no club affiliation here - but surely Smalling has a great shout (at CB, if not as cover at RB) also?

Trolling, 7 years in toughest league in the world, down to being tripe! What has Wigan and the BPL got to do with someone that supports a league 1 team. Mind Blown

That's not trolling mate, that's one person giving their opinion on a club, you've taken offence as he's talking about your club

Well I think that's a shame. I'd like us to get progressive, ball playing young defenders in over Terry. Then there's midfielders like that kid from chelsea, henderson, cleverley and obviously wilshere. Couple that with players like Sturridge, Carroll (if he regains form), Walker etc and I think we could have the basis of a very good side, but you need to give them playing time together in high pressure environments.

Sure, Ferdinand Terry Lampard and Gerrard might be (slightly) better at the moment but there's no real future in those players now.
