Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 22nd August 2011]

That's not trolling mate, that's one person giving their opinion on a club, you've taken offence as he's talking about your club

I give up

Would hardly call that tripe for a team that is the youngest club in the EPL comes from the same town as Wigan Warriors, greatest Rugbly league team so 10,000s of fans lost to then. They dont have the money as some more established teams coming from big areas.

Just bitter fans seeing a small town doing well and at times playing good football.

And I hate using "stats"

Does anyone ever arrange SA meets? In particular football meets? Would be good to meet some of you.

What, would be a blood bath!

I think it's been mentioned before, distance is obviously a problem.

Not many of us live near Manchester...

I laughed, dont worry I will have a pint for you. I cant stand the southern accent anyway.

Genuinely no club affiliation here - but surely Smalling has a great shout (at CB, if not as cover at RB) also?

We've not seen enough of Smalling at RB to give him much consideration there. And as above, I can't see Capello changing both his CB's going into the Euros, and imo, Jones is the most obvious replacement for Ferdinand both long and short term.

Well I think that's a shame. I'd like us to get progressive, ball playing young defenders in over Terry. Then there's midfielders like that kid from chelsea, henderson, cleverley and obviously wilshere. Couple that with players like Sturridge, Carroll (if he regains form), Walker etc and I think we could have the basis of a very good side, but you need to give them playing time together in high pressure environments.

Sure, Ferdinand Terry Lampard and Gerrard might be (slightly) better at the moment but there's no real future in those players now.

There's 2 things to consider. Firstly I don't think any manager, no matter what his short or long term objectives, would make wholesale changes. If you chucked all the kids in together, it could prove counter productive. They could go to the Euros and get hammered and you'll do more damange than good to them. Secondly, Capello's the manager and he's off in a years time. He's not going to risk his last chance at winning something for the longterm good of English football.

The reason why I say Jones and Wilshere are the only 2 that I can see featuring are because they're the only 2 that in the short-term wouldn't be noticable downgrades on what we've currently got. A fit Gerrard is still a long way ahead of the likes of Henderson and equally imo, Terry is still a better player than Smalling.

Bring the likes of Henderson, Cleverly, Smalling etc into the squad ahead of Lescott, Carrick etc but I can't see them breaking into the side unless something unforeseen happens.

What I don't get is, you take the **** out of other teams plenty (I'm sure I could find enough one-line posts from you about Man Utd or Arsenal to write a book), yet the second anyone dares to make a crack about Wigan, you immediately pull the "SKY FOUR FANS GANGING UP ON POOR ME" card, and moan wildly.

I hope the many ironies of this aren't lost on you.

I wouldn't imagine anyone is bitter about a small town club doing well in the Premiership for example I doubt many wanted Blackpool to get relegated last season

The fact is though while you've had some good players in the past your team at the moment isn't great and hasn't been for about 2 seasons now and it is a miracle that you have avoided relegation and unless some investment in the team is made then it's surely only a matter of time before you are relegated.

I'd be all up for one but I'd need a fair bit of time before hand and it couldn't be too far away (would probably be coming via train, unless I pass my driving test fast)

I think Tummy and cheets shared a test tube so they've met.

Die.

Actually, not that you all give a **** but I was a test tube baby, one of the first in the Country :)

Bah, everyone would be scared to speak I imagine. No keyboards to hide behind :)

Nah, I'd be pretty chatty. Wouldn't mind meeting some of you to be honest.

United team look good, fringe players look sound, these guys playing with the likes of Vidic/Ferdi and the mid fielders and attackers, will be very strong in the prem for years to come, Man United/Man City for the title this year.

Keeper is the only weak link so far.

Cheets... what a... sensible... post. Do my eyes deceive me?

See, you can do it! :)

A SA meet up is a scary prospect.

I'd come to that!

Armed.

Make sure Robbo gets an invite with the real address. All the other Mancs get fake invites.
I'd come to that!

Armed......with a HP touchpad for BaZ

edit: I just checked my email and I've got a confirmation from CPW (:D). I didn't think my order went through - it crashed when I hit confirm.

Don't worry about the touchpad, I'll have a spare smartphone instead. Getting bored of my Desire HD

I am sure 50% of my posts get ignored on here, I gave up a long time ago to having serious discussions about football on here sad but true.

Cleary the north west would be the best place for a meet, 19 and 18 titles between two respectful clubs, plus its cheaper and less ponsey oop north.

If the North spent all that time telling everyone how much better they are than London on something vaguely productive, they might actually stand a chance.

I kid, of course. They don't really.

To be fair, Spawn will know a bad keeper, he's watched several for the past three seasons.

:D:D

lol what an utteraly retarded post.

Yes the keeper made a mistake with the cross...so what? VDS went for the majority of a season being dodgy with crosses.

People need to get a grip.

Relax fella:p...its only an opinion of what i saw...hes young, first time in this league and he can only get better in time....he looked good at times, he just needs to relax a little.

Try being an Arsenal fan when Almunia was a liability for us....that was painful lol

I've got the confirmation but not the despatch, I suppose we'll get those tomorrow!

Oh right, which one would you like? :p

Good game tonight, glad to be back in OT. DHL gave everyone a free scarf with CHAMP19NS, which was nice. Our young defence is coming a long nicely. Even evans played well tonight, but reminded us of his old self with the yellow and constant holding on as if he's going to fall over if he doesn't hold onto a player.

Anderson looked fitter but his last second decision on the ball is still questionable.

Welbeck hasn't really been involved enough for me, but I understand its been 3 games, doesn't look as strong or have enough ball control, perhaps time will change that. Shame Berb didn't come on, our top goalscorer can't get a start?!?! :/
