However there wasn't enough transition given that Henry, Vieira, Campbell, Gilberto, Pires etc were moved on perhaps a little too soon.
I watched some highlights on YT the other day of Everton getting mauled 7-0 and it was quite depressing, Arsenal didn't even bother bringing Henry on until the second half and defenders were literally [(c) Redknapp] crapping their pants as he was motoring towards them. I don't seem to see that kind of fear in the opposition eyes anymore.
The thing that bugged me was how quickly we got rid of the best players, after 5 years it was mostly the fringe/worst players from the invincibles left, and while I didn't really want players to move on, its the quality of the replacements that made it clear Wenger had lost his mind. He PUSHED Pires out of the club by favouring Hleb.... who was absolutely and utterly incompetant, Walcott looks brilliant in comparison, and this is a guy who ended up just about first on the team sheet.
Gilberto and Flamini were pushed out of the club, one for being too old/expensive, despite going on to be the best DM in the world cup a good few years later, one because we were too cheap to give Flamini a MINOR contract improvement a year earlier. But why did he let them go, because he thought Denilson/Diaby/Song were great replacements, sorry but with Gilberto you have one of the best DM's EVER, with Flamini you have a quality utility player, those three aren't remotely prem league quality.
I have no problem with a plan for youth players, selling players when the prices are right, the problem is, when a youth player turns out to suck, SELL HIM TOO, Wenger never did.
That Everton game was freaking unbelievable, I was at that game and all though that game the whole crowd was just about jizzing in their pants at how good the football is. Arsenal still try to pass it around, its not even close to the same type of football as we played 8 years ago, 8 years ago we played Barca at their best style football... now we try and don't come close.
The other thing that has bugged me the most was when we have got quality players they've been woefully underused. Seriously look up bendtner's stats, games to goals and assists he's VERY good, he's very effective, his only lacking stat is number of games played and that is down to one man. Vela was brilliant last season when he actually got games but was treated like crap for three years. He bought Bendtner, vela, Eduardo, and burned all of them to give Adebayor games. Larrson, Bentley, Pennant, Nordveit, quite a few others just needed SOME games, SOME rotation to stay at Arsenal and be quality back up players, the O'shea's/Fletchers/Neville's that you need at a top club, but after sending out on loan they basically got no chances at all in the first team and left.
LIke I've said so many times Wenger joined Arsenal and managed till the end of the unbeaten run, Wenger's version 2.0 took over the day after that.... and pretty much sucks.
