That was different. Rooney wanted more money. He basically said the rest of the team isn't good enough for him. We had every right to slate him for that.

He repaid us by scoring a bunch of goals, so, its all cool now.

You don't think RVP did this for more money? Of course he did or he wouldn't have come out with all that guff about it meaning little to go elsewhere and win. It's a convenient line to peddle out because Arsenal wouldn't pay him what he would get at united. It's his last contract and tbh he has to look after himself but it's no different from Rooneys comments to engineer more money.

The only difference is United caved in, Arsenal didn't or couldn't. :)

Anyway this thread isn't about RVP and it's a done deal. :)

I disagree, I don't think it was about the money, I think it was because he wanted a better chance of actually winning something. Some players do care about that. He was obviously very dedicated to Arsenal, but the rest of the team just didn't cut it; for whatever reason.

Quite right (though it will no doubt be brought up ten more times :p).

Sorry, I must have been confused about that part.

I think most of us thought Rooney had a fair point to be honest, even if that wasn't his real reason and he just wanted a pay rise.

Investment was required and as we've now seen, money is there to be spent (£50/60m last season and £40-50m this season). That kind of funding is fairly sufficient, if spent wisely.

I did too, the team was lacking and his agent used that little area to make it seem legitimate to engineer money/move. I'd rather vent my frustration at the agents than the players. They get far too much out of all of these deals.

It only took me 5 years to get the bitterness out of my system after the united move ;) Getting abused in the street while going for a run in a rooney england number 18 shirt all those years ago didn't help :D

My only issue is with the injury stuff, nothing else. You seem to have trouble reading/understanding what I'm saying?

I am not a hypocrite, I haven't said you can't 'slate' him.

I also defended Rooney in that thread, even before he'd changed his mind.

In your position I'd be gutted to lose RvP, and annoyed, but I'd also understand considering that you haven't won ANYTHING for such a long time. Good players don't like that.

RVP is part to blame for us winning nothing for years

Um, he has to look out for himself. He spent 8 years at Arsenal. If anything, Wenger let down RVP. RVP did everything he could at Arsenal and now he wants to win something. He dragged Arsenal into the CL.

Wishing an injury upon someone else is a disgusting thing to say. You should be embarrassed.

We are all adults here, don't bring this down to a school yard name calling fest.

Again, RVP is at fault for arsenal not winning nothing for years. where was he when we lost carling cup final against bham? ahh yes, dilly dallying around doing sweet FA when it comes to the business side of the season as per usual.

Its not wenger on the pitch missing sitters, letting in terrible goals or deciding not to show up and perform now aint it?

RVP, Nasri, Fabregas, Song, Clichy etc were once all playing together and what did they do? what did they achieve together?

come on mate tell me what all those ex arsenal players achieved together when they was at a time playing in teh same team?

NOTHING.

is that wengers fault? is it wengers fault that he bought these world class players who where a bunch of nobodies, turned them into household names and believed in them and believed they can deliver success on teh pitch?

Your all quick to point at wenger and the board yet its not wenger on the bloody pitch. its not wenger bottling it in big matches.

RVP and co are to blame just as the board and wenger. RVP has failed, so did fabregas and co. they all failed miserably in there times at arsenal. its not just the club, wenger etc that failed but the players that all took part in the last 7 odd trophyless years

That Rooney handled the transfer request well when he did the same as RVP and wanting a move because he thought the club lacked ambition.

I honestly have no idea what you're going on about

All 'we' have said is RVP hasn't done anything wrong which is true he hasn't, he's chosen not to sign a contract extension (and explained the reasons) and thus has left to sign for someone else....

Rooney on the other hand was clearly badly advised, I have no idea whether him publicly questioning the ambition of the club which that season won the league title and made the final of the Champions League was solely an attempt to get more money or not but suffice to say if he had wanted to leave he wouldn't of signed a new contract.

If I had to compare the two I'd say Rooney was at worst stupid, greedy and disrespectful, RVP on the other hand has done nothing but explain why he wouldn't sign a new contract at Arsenal and proven it was based purely on footballing reasons

...I just had a quick scan of that thread and I can't see anyone wishing injury on him.

You did say that Utd fans would lynch him though :p

Arsenal fans are reacting the same way Liverpool fans did when Torres left or how any other clubs fans would react if their star player left. Some people always overreact and say things they don't quite mean.

Disagree again. read my post above on why

Errr, what?!

If it wasn't for him you probably wouldn't even be in the Champion's League now and probably wouldn't have been able to attract the players you've just signed.

The rest of that post is hilarious. You're the one who kept wanting Wenger sacked and now it's the players fault?

:o

I did because I thought a lot of them would, I also said I wouldn't personally have lynched him so I seem to have all bases covered on this topic. :p

****ing town. Can't trust em for owt. Taffs have no place in English footy and they've gone and stuck em top of the league

I believe Wenger's style of play is to fault here. He never changes it. He trains his team to walk the ball into the net.

How can you say RVP failed? He scored 30 goals in the league last season. He is the only reason Wenger is still in a job. Without RVP's goals, Arsenal wouldn't even be in the top 6.

o so now your bringing up dead points i made a year ago when i said wenger should only be sacked if we dont make top4? your hilarous.

So ok bruv, you seriously think the lack of success is all to do with the board and wenger and NOTHING and i mean NOTHING to do with rvp and co?

So again tell me robbo, what did RVP do in the carling cup final. please tell me what did he do to that day?

thought so:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Not quite. You're happy to criticise Arsenal fans for the way they're reacting to Van Persie leaving but you didn't say a word when Utd fans were acting the exact same way a little over 18 months ago.

As above, Arsenal fans have reacted no differently to the way Utd fans, Liverpool fans, Chelsea fans or Wigan's fan would have reacted in the same position.

Im talking about the club in the last 7 years of winning nothing. RVP has had one great season. where was he before? where was fabregas and co?

please read my posts again man. you cant blame it all on the manager. players at certain times of the season dont show up. fabregas and co dont show up under wenger when the going gets tough

So because he didn't perform in one game he's no good? I guess Messi should be called rubbish as he couldn't score past a ten man Chelsea team. ;)

Less of the rolleyes, it doesn't aid your point (not that you really have one).

I'm being critical of the Arsenal fans wishing injury on him. That is it. Nothing else. I'd expect many of them to be upset and now 'hate' him.

I've pointed out it's an utterly stupid thing to say. If a Man Utd fan said the same, I'd say the same thing.

Scored Arsenal's only goal

:D

You also categorically stated much more recently that Wenger should be sacked: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=20952827&postcount=1723

Wenger needs to be sacked mate. he nver learns and Fergie is following Wengers footsteps it seems by going backwards. if fergies doesnt address the shambolic side he has that are on paper no better then Arsenals useless jabroni's, then he too will make united go trophyless for x amount of years in a row like almighty Wenger.
