I wouldn't call Defoe an ariel threat but I'd still rather have him in the box than taking the corner. RvP is one of the best strikers in the world, he's always a threat... apart from when taking corners.

Defoe doesn't take a very good corner though and even if he could, you've got other players that can also. It's all good and well having RvP in the box but if the ball isn't making it into the box, he's wasted.

I'm not particularly disagreeing with you but it's easier to understand why RvP is taking corners than somebody like Drogba.
