Nope, Chelsea were just as average(for a top 4 team) for the best part of the last 5 years as well
People are daft, really daft, Sturridge is excellent, but because he had ONE game where he missed a bunch of chances all of a sudden everyones saying he can't hit a barn door, he still scored in that game IIRC.
People miss chances, the best strikers in the world miss chances, Messi misses a crapload and Ronaldo misses a ridiculous amount(he shoots more from range than probably anyone else in the world, certainly anyone else who scores 30+ a season), and they will both have games where all these misses come along at once.
I'd take a Sturridge who isn't scared to shoot over a player who rarely misses, but won't shoot very often and that in itself will cost us more games.
Cole and Bosingwa have been poor this year, ignoring the high line Cole has made so many individual error's, poor passing being caught upfield. These days people over analyse simple things that cause bad results, a lot of Chelsea's worst games haven't been tactically great, nor inept, just some very poor individual performances. Cole for a decade basically hasn't had an issue getting right up to deliver a cross and getting back to make a good tackle in his own box from the counter attack, this year he's getting caught a lot more, a high line isn't going to make a huge difference to Cole.
Drogba has blown hot and cold, but can you blame him, best striker in the EPL the year before, great start to last season, gets sick, has an off spell and suddenly finds himself out of the team for Torres starting and with a different formation every week trying to get Torres working? Drogba for almost a year hasn't been really out and out first team, he hasn't known(till maybe the last 4-5 games) that he'd be starting, the team has been playing worse, partially down to the constant changes.
Chelsea need a set starting 11 and some games to get used to playing together and more depth, as Gustov said, Mikel/Malouda and Kalou are essentially gash. They have no backup to Lampard, no backup(that isn't painfully and stupidly out of form) upfront, no backup on the wings and very little back up in defence. With Alex being told to do one and Luiz a seeming crackpot defensively they've got very little backup also.
