Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17th - 22nd December 2011]

Welbeck starting ahead of him is an absolute insult, especially in games against teams we expect to beat that park the bus, I mean who's gonna find space, pick a pass, produce a bit of magic to break the deadlock, Welbeck or Berba? It's ridiculous.

Personally think exactly the opposite

Given that Utd have got 1 point out of 9 from the last three visits to CC, you DONT start a striker who has barely played this season who thrives on confidence (and disappears otherwise)

Berba is just as likely to disappear and be a complete waste of space currently as he is to "find space, pick a pass, produce a bit of magic" - and whats more its pretty obvious that currently Welbeck, Hernandez and Rooney are going to be the current / near future striking options for Utd according to SAF, Berba has never really shown his full worth to the club (despite his attempts) over the 4 seasons he has been at OT

Welbeck did his job well today, should have got a penalty and possibly one more than the early goal he got.

What's wrong with calling black players coloured?

Alan Hansen just did it on MOTD and it seems to have caused an uproar on twitter.

not according to black folks I know, coloured is patronising apparantly, black is fine
Rotty is 100% right
all my black mates hate being called coloured,
as Hansen said it, i cringed, as i could tell that there would be something said about it.
but to me he meant no harm in it, its just ignorance

as for the game tonight, i thought Utd looked good, but its still a while to go, and yet the injuries are starting to mount up, so i am not getting too exited over it.

I like Welbeck, bar Bolton away our most fluid attacking performances this season have been when he's in the team. Up until getting injured after scoring against Arsenal he was a fixture in the side and after a couple of false starts since (due to more injuries) he's now got back in the team and last 3 games against Wolves, QPR and Fulham all of which hes started have been the best we've played since those initial 4/5 games at the start of the season.

As Hernandez has still to get going this season Welbeck's first choice for me alongside Rooney no doubt.

"coloured" is considered a derogative term - Black is the correct useage.

"mixed race" is the correct term, as opposed to the often used "half caste".

Oh, and McLeish OUT!!

Oh, and McLeish OUT!!

My other half was told during her teacher training that mixed race isn't allowed anymore, and instead its now 'mixed heritage'

Is oriental allowed these days?

;)

Any whoooo... lol at Hansen, he's old, probably doesn't know we're nearly into 2012!

What isn't? lets face whites merely pointing out skin colour in a descriptive fashion will be seen as derogatory to some.

It's gone way too far to the point where whites are treading on eggshells all the time... it's just causing more friction if anything with whites scared to be around non-whites (oh dear is that derogatory? :p) for fear of offending them.

Negrito is ok, it's a term of endearment meaning "my little black friend"

to some people that might be correct - to other cultures / educational backgrounds/ etc that is completely the opposite

Anything at all sounding like negro , in this day and age, you HAVE to be careful of who you are speaking to as much as how you personally percieve / believe anything to mean (especially someone you barely know)

saying anything to a friend is one thing, because they probably know how you mean it - saying the same thing in the same tone of voice to a stranger could just as rightly get you a punch in the face

Hopefully Rotty will send you an email next time he tells a joke so you don't get confused again.

I would have thought my post would have given some indication it was meant in jest...:D

Spurs V Chelsea tonight!

Will Kings knee hold out?
Will Bale be fit?
Will Defoe be fit to start on the bench?
With Lennon out would you push Walker down to right wing and have Corluka/Kaboul at right back with Gallas and King in the centre?

Real 6 pointer IMO, Really want the win, if we do win 5 points clear with a game in hand. Also I have 2 very over opinionated Chelsea supporting friends and I would love to rub it in.

how is a literal translation with no other indication a joke?

Because of how and when it's used.

Rotty's told Shami (who I don't believe is Spanish or South American) to use a Spanish/South American term to refer to black people, after Shami said he doesn't know what term is acceptable anymore. It's quite clearly a joke based on the Suarez/Evra situation.
