Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [18th - 20th March 2016]

I feel the same, but regardless of what happens now, he has to go. I really, really hope Woodward will see that.

A respected paper in Spain last night ran the story saying we've got a pre-contract signed with him, and have more or less assured him he's got the job, but not until May 1st - something along those lines.

If Champions League means LvG stays then that would really be depressing.

I think it's a contract for Mourinho to be reserved for Utd, and the longer they leave the decision, the more that Mourinho is compensated, up to 15m if the papers are to be believed. Worrying.

Well played ref. Hasn't carded any city players despite 2 professional fouls to stop counter attacks and now ignores a stone wall penalty that he had a perfect view of.

But it also means they're very much considering it, rather than deciding to stick with LvG whatever happens.

The general feeling among people who would know, is that it's more or less done, just not until May.

Michael Oliver is a dreadful ref.

Missed our game and only just got about to watching some brief highlights. Southampton away is always going to be a difficult game, especially coming off the back of a tough game midweek but to be 2-0 at HT it's hugely frustrating not to come away with a win. From what I saw and have read, Skrtel looked all over the place but Flanagan's got to take his share of the blame. He was atrocious for their 1st goal and as soon as they got 1 back it was game on and we were always going to be hanging on towards the end. Had we put the game to bed in the first half then none of that would have mattered.

Need to make these chances count. Seem to be picking City open quite easily here. Still lots in their team to cause us problems

Reminds me of the 2nd Liverpool game where Utd really should have scored 2 or 3 before half time but didn't take the chances (admittedly no one in City's team have so far showed the skill of Coutinho the other night but still)

Its a much better team performance than in the EPL recently, even if the ref booked Smalling for a nothing challenge yet wont book any of the city players for far worse ones

Oliver is a **** ref so its not surprising. He is the one that sent of Di Maria for touching him yet didn't do anything when Joe Hart screams in his face with his head on the refs an when Kompany just grabs him. Grade A ****

I think it's almost more worrying that they're seeing how it goes... If we get CL, that might be the criteria for LVG to stay, which would be baffling.
Do they not look at the games, the style of play, the way LVG 'destroys' players, the complete lack of conviction?

Anyway... yep, how was that not a penalty!?

While I agree with you - I bet its all about the bottom line , ie how much it would cost to sack LvG if Utd DO get top 4 (obviously its a lot easier to get him out the door if Utd aren't in the CL)

I still think it should be as clear cut as you suggest, unfortunately it never is.
Much prefer to pay the £15m or whatever for LvG to pay him off and the £15-20m for Mourinho to come in and sort the team out now than potentially waste yet another season in a holding pattern of dire football like the last 3 or 4
