Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [18th - 21st August 2017]

Robertson has a great debut. He didn't have much defending to do so I'll reserve judgement on the defensive side of his game but in possession he looked so comfortable with the ball at his feet and linked up really well with our attacks down the left, whipped in some really good crosses and played so very clever, intricate passes.
He's going to come unstuck a lot this season simply because Klopp likes his fullbacks to play like wingers and he's not as quick as Moreno. A number of times today he was one of the furthest players up the pitch and against better teams they'll attack the space he's left. I'm hoping when we're pinned back, his defensive attributes will stand out more and he'll make less mistakes than Moreno.

It will be interesting to see if he plays that way without Milner in the side. You're right he pushed forward a lot but Milner played a lot wider on the left than Wijnaldum did on the right of our midfield 3 and would often drop back into the LB role when Robertson went forward.

At the very least though, he showed far more care and precision in his passes and crosses than when Moreno bombs forward and wildly swings crosses in.

What a joke that was today. 8 hour round trip to watch that shower. Thoroughly awful performance all round. Nothing's changed, nothing at all.

Wasn't Arnautovic £24m? Are West Ham mental... :p

More like £20m. I was happy to see the back of him. I never rated him, there's no doubt he has talent but what good is that if he only shows up for a few minutes every four or five games or so and then if he doesn't get everything his own way he goes into strop mode and throws his toys out of the pram? You can guarantee that this won't be his last red card for petulant, childlike behaviour and I'd wager he'll see more than a few for diving too. I said this to a couple of Wet Sham fans the day he had his medical and they just laughed it off as they were adamant that they'd just got a bargain.

Same old Arsenal. Didn't create enough clear cut chances regardless of all the possession. 2 left backs playing at CB when we just sold Gabriel. Ramsey and the Ox woeful in midfield. Ozil went missing after they scored. No DM still. Having to bring on Iwobi :(. Lacazette isolated for majority of game, took his chance well unlucky to be called offside really, he came off because he looked knackered. Can't see Sanchez staying so not only do we need to replace him we need to bring more players in. This should all have been done before the season started. No way we'll make top 4 this season, will need to put eggs in Europa league basket.

Weird starting lineup. Picking 2 identical strikers when, if we play counter attack as expected, it would make sense for a little/large combo to hold up all.

In his defence, he could spend £100m on five players and they all be fairly bang average really. It's not a great market to be spending in.
What has become of Newcastle's academy?

Sunderland produced Jordan Pickford who, moving to Everton now, is arguably one of the best keepers in the Premier League.

At my beloved Everton we have a track record of producing quality young players. Tom Davies being amongst the latest.

It's not all about buying players in, financially you have to be able to produce your own players. Roman Abramovic has complained regularly about the lack of progress at Chelsea from their academy. Even he sees the futility of throwing good money after bad on buying players.
