Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [18th - 21st January 2014]

Has any former professional or pundit not said it was a penalty?

Well so far Redknapp/Petrov/Lineker/Murphy/Shearer/Savage and some american channel I saw have all agreed it wasn't a dive.

But you know, everyone gets outraged and calls him a **** at the first sign of a dubious penalty whilst he gets clattered for six months getting nothing and other players are getting booked weekly for diving yet aren't called such things

Poor guy.

lol, everyone getting booked for diving doesn't get called anything, utter nonsense. utd fans have been calling Young scum for a couple years now... but no one says anything about other players who dive, sure.

As for pundits.... it's really not difficult, when a player is constantly being talked about as best in the league currently, exceptionally rarely will people talk badly about them on tv, and when that player isn't considered one of the best around you find the entire media piling on, when the incident is the same in either situation.

The MOTD lot, Savage, Shearer in particular and Redknapp are constantly full of crap, have been for a decade so using their opinion when they happen to agree with you is meaningless. I don't value their opinions if they agree or disagree with me, they are collectively boring useless media whores who talk nicely about anyone who is potentially popular and talk down about "lesser" players.

The striker played for the penalty. He didn't dive.

The person most in the wrong is the gk.

If you can't understand the simple concept then you should just ignore and move on. Whether you agree or not, the referee had his view on the situation and I agree.

But he has been called out plenty for diving in the media before and has been a top 3 player in the league since he has arrived?

Bale was apparently the best player in the league last year but they were happy to say he dived when he did.

So I'm not sure what your point is when that clearly does happen ???

Also yes Young is a good point, although it might help he is the worst diver the league has seen consistently for a very long time

Give it a rest DM, you know full well that you (generally not you specifically) don't need an excuse to jump on Suarez's back. Had any of those pundits thought it was a dive they'd have said so, regardless of whether he's the best player in the League or not.

So tell me why he moves his left leg as if he hit an invisible wall instead of trying to stay on his feet? Just because there is contact doesn't mean it isn't a dive, a dive is going down when you could have at least attempted to stay on his feet, which Suarez didn't do.

I couldn't care less whether Suarez tried to stay on his feet or not. He was tripped by Guzan and it was a pen.

I've been saying this for years, if an attacker is fouled but stays on his feet then the ref won't award the penalty. They're scared to make decisions and if the player doesn't go down that's their excuse not to give the foul. Until officials start making decisions based on the challenge rather than the reaction, I have no issue with players going to ground when they could have stayed on their feet. In fact, officials are encouraging it by not awarding fouls when a player stays on his feet despite being fouled.
