Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19 - 21st October 2012]

You're going down unless you stop haemorrhaging goals.

3 keepers in 8 games says we are going down what ever happens. Only way we are staying up is if 3 teams are worse.

We started Boruc today for NO reason, wasn't fit and Gazza was fine in the last few game. Stupid player to start.

Stand by my view of Carroll tough, useless **** who should be embarrassed to call him self a professional footballer

Hahha I switch onto MOTD and the first thing I hear twitchy say is that he had noticed Maigi previously.

What a tool.

I think DM needs to start supporting a worse team, it would make his rants/posts much more interesting.

It's quite simple, and I've been very clear, a team spending 120mil in wages a season doesn't have the same target as a team spending, 80mil, 40mil, 20mil, or half a million down in the lower leagues.

My problem with Arsenal is, Wenger, and his utter inability to learn from mistakes. We sucked all through the game start to finish, we once again took off one of the best players, and brought on the wrong player, we did it at the wrong time. Likewise most of what was wrong with our game, defensive mistakes, set piece inability, defensive or offensive. If Wenger TRIED to fix some of the glaring mistakes, tried new tactics, got rid of the worse performing players, I wouldn't care IF WE LOST. Trying and failing is fine, being satisfied with the status quo while woefully underperforming and making so many mistakes, is not. I've said it so many times, sell Diaby, Rosicky, Song, Denilson and whoever else(theres plenty) buy completely free players, or spend 80mil, I don't care. TRYING and failing is finy, accepting we aren't good enough, and continuing to pay, and give new contracts to players who 100% certainly NOT good enough is beyond failure, its unforgiveable. Rosicky had at best a half dozen decent games, gets himself a new contract... gets injured, everyone else in the entire universe saw it coming but Wenger. How many new contracts did Hargreaves get at Utd after his injury?

Status quo, failure, ineptitude aren't things I think should happen at any club and shouldn't be accepted, not least when Arsenal fans pay more than any other fans in the country.

I don't much care for league titles, they don't suck, but I watch 38x 95mins of football with Arsenal(much more with other teams) weather that time is classfied a winning season or a losing season doesn't actually change that football I've seen. Its entertainment, we aren't playing the best we can, or even close to the best we can.

If its Leed's spending X amount and aiming for play offs, Arsenal aiming for a title, or Torquay ending for anything above relegation.... a team can meet expectations, fail, or surpass them, failing repeatedly isn't good enough, especially when you make no effort to change at all.

It's at the point now where DM's rants reak of desperation trying to convince himself that its RVP > Rooney because he sure as hell isn't convincing anyone that watches the two in the same team week in week out

Desparation, really, that doesn't sound right as when RVP was still with Arsenal, and I wasn't comparing Rooney to anyone, I still said he was average. So am I really, as you say, trying to convince myself RVP is better than Rooney.... even though I've said Rooney is over rated for donkeys years?

Who is desparate, who can't have an opinion without the Rooney defenders all jumping down my throat? It certainly doesn't sound like I'm desparate, it sounds like the desparate rants of English fans who latch onto a player who on the world stage isn't even remotely close to the best strikers or players in the world, and spend entire generations trying to convince themselves a player really is up there with the best in the world.

Its funny, what I saw of Utd today involved Rooney making a lot of fairly meh passes, pushing it sideways, I saw RVP drop deep and do much more interesting and fluid movements with the team, creating lots of attacks, putting the ball on Rooney's head(face maybe?) to tap in at the far post. I also don't remember saying RVP was better than Rooney based on this game alone so even if Rooney was better than RVP today that wouldn't really mean anything. Unless of course Berbatov's hattrick against Liverpool proves he was Utd's best player because of one performance?

Did Rodriguez play? They payed a lot of money for him...... Far too much I would say. (what do you think ping?)

Rodriguez played yeah, he did well with an improvised volley that just went wide and I think he got the assist for Lallana's goal. Don't think you can really blame Saints' attackers in that game, it was the defence that cost them. No idea what Fonte was thinking grabbing Carroll's hair in the box, blatant penalty.

Wait I thought you meant Gaston Ramirez :( (hence why this is confused)

Gaston injured, 6 weeks from 3 weeks ago with a dead leg (fluid stuck in his shin and wont be playing till west brom away).

12m was not enough for him, best player at the club by a mile, Liverpool and Spurs need to sort them selves out if they wouldn't pay him 40k per week and 12m for him as he is real class.

Rodriguez we paid 6m for, 6m too much. Joke of a striker, I stick with bring back David Connelly (as my later post indicates because I miss read who we could have over paid for)

He did "play" as in he set up our goal with a nice little pass, that's all he did. He's not a premier league footballer. His hype last year was to get him in the England U21's team. He's not good enough yet and it shows, badly.

Saints are definitely going to struggle to stay up, their defence is poor. Also, why is Lambert being benched by Adkins?

We benched Lambert because every team with a bit of decent guess work about them man marks Lambert. United did it with both Vidic and Ferdinand (who both were terrible) but against mobile CB's Lambert can't deal with 2 at once for 90 mins so we stick him on the bench, wear everyone out with Rodriguez and slam in the late goals.

Works if you don't concede utter nonsense goals in the first 3 mins of the first half.

Also would work better if Rodriguez was any good, unfortunately he's been probably the biggest waste of 6m possible, David Connelly would have been better.

We are suffering the most because we don't have Gaston (Ramirez but its just Gaston on his shirt), playing Puncheon as a regular prem starter is embarrassing and by boo-guy, his mindless lack of ability is costing us big time.

Have you recently had a blow to the head? Are you suffering from short term memory loss? You spent most of last season banging on about how RVP was better than Rooney even when the stats disproved almost everything you were saying.

Firstly DM you don't have opinions or at least you don't present them as opinions but then you've been told that over and over again and yet you're still the same, Secondly Man Utd supporters who believe Rooney is the better player has nothing to do with Rooney being English

You're right Rooney being better than RVP in one game doesn't mean anything however Rooney being the better of the two by far in every single game the two have played together does

Just to clarify for you, calling someone average is, by definition comparing them to others. Otherwise the term is meaningless.

Sterling looks to be gaining confidence
Certainly hope so. He works his ass off, he's intelligent with his passing and he's not afraid to run at people but he didn't look like he wanted to take a shot on himself before he scored today. If anything he needs to be more selfish and use his talent more but that'll come with age and experience.

I expected City to kick on with bags of confidence and have a much better season this year. Yet they are very disappointing, I can't see them being a threat even in the last month of the season. They are quite lucky to have as many points as they do.

Did you see the game today? I thought that considering they were a man down they played pretty well. I agree that they have been disappointing so far this year and are having to come from behind in too many matches, but I wouldn't say they played badly today.

Is shay given injured?

No he's just out of form/RUINED by the worst manager in the premier league...

Come May I'd bet money on City being closer to winning the title than Chelsea....

Boil your hat now in preparation???

City have really had to work for their results this season, Chelsea on quite a few games this year have hardly had to get out of 3rd gear for them... (presuming they have 6 gears in their new Russian made/mad car)

Don't confuse not getting out of third gear with that level being the maximum a team is capable of, like I said earlier Chelsea have had some good results this season but on the other hand when they've played the very best (City, Madrid, Juventus) they've been largely outplayed and comfortably beaten.

Don't forget their 4-1 spanking against Atletico Madrid in the Super Cup.

I'd expect both manchester teams to finish above Chelsea this year.
