Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19th - 26th December 2014]

Pretty dumb way to kick someone if you're trying, looks painful.

Just seen this decision for city. Unbelievable, I'm sure it all balances out in the end though right

THat isn't even a slightly "unbelievable" decision. While it would have been overturned without any trouble with video replay look at where the linesman is. it is literally impossible to be looking at the City player several metres to his left and the middle of the box and call an accurate offside there. It's unfortunate but 99% of linesman would call that offside. That would have been a miracle for a linesman to spot he was onside.

No one for Palace even complained, that is not a single City or Palace player realised it was onside either, 90% of bad calls players involved know, that is how difficult it was to judge/call that onside for anyone on the pitch.

The Aston villa player goes to kick the ball when he's closer to the ball than Young if you look at the reply and pause it, he's already going to kick the ball. Think he then realises he's not going to make it, but then it's too late.

Except he's looking at the ball as its being struck (or you'd hope so), you'd like to think he's aware of the guy near enough directly in his line of sight on the pitch and his where abouts in relation to the grass cutting.

Also poor positioning, I'm not sure why he's level with the Palace player.

I sometimes wonder whether some of these people that endorse pulling out of everything will ever be fathers :(

ACtually a lot of the time you'd expect linesmen to be looking along the line and listen for the moment the ball is released, because you can hear that and be looking along the line at the same time. If you look at the ball you can't hear if someone is offside so the split second it takes you to change where you're focusing someone can have moved offside. So yes a lot of the time they are looking across the line rather than the ball. Really their point of focus will be flicking back and fourth constantly, either way it would be very difficult to look at the ball then look down at the players feet to check his position there then look across the line and compare it.

At first I thought his positioning was poor but I presume the ball went forward with the two players right next to him so he was keeping up with them before the ball went backwards.

It's kind of worst case scenario for linesman, catching two people breaking, ball goes back and it's whipped across to players miles away with a guy too close to easily call where he is on the pitch compared to someone far away.

It's a "bad" call as in it was plainly wrong, but of all incorrect offside decisions it's the one I can understand the easiest and see is one of the most difficult for a linesman to judge.
