Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19th - 26th December 2014]

The young injury was well over 3 minutes. Villa have wasted a good 3 or 4 and the other injury was a good couple as well.

this scottish commentator is doing my head with his constant comments on how 'on edge' poch looks. does he want him to start knitting a scarf or something?

What a dreadful half of football, staggering amount of poor choices by the Spurs players and poor execution to boot. The manager has done nothing to try and change things or help the players apart from stand on the sidelines looking nervous!!

Then takes our best, hardest working player off in Kane to replace with Soldado. WTF??

ACtually a lot of the time you'd expect linesmen to be looking along the line and listen for the moment the ball is released, because you can hear that and be looking along the line at the same time. If you look at the ball you can't hear if someone is offside so the split second it takes you to change where you're focusing someone can have moved offside. So yes a lot of the time they are looking across the line rather than the ball. Really their point of focus will be flicking back and fourth constantly, either way it would be very difficult to look at the ball then look down at the players feet to check his position there then look across the line and compare it.

At first I thought his positioning was poor but I presume the ball went forward with the two players right next to him so he was keeping up with them before the ball went backwards.

It's kind of worst case scenario for linesman, catching two people breaking, ball goes back and it's whipped across to players miles away with a guy too close to easily call where he is on the pitch compared to someone far away.

It's a "bad" call as in it was plainly wrong, but of all incorrect offside decisions it's the one I can understand the easiest and see is one of the most difficult for a linesman to judge.

I'd like to think they're flicking between their POV very quickly, if you're relying on sound there's a fair bit of a delay, especially if its the other side of the pitch they are on.

And we get situations like this

Damn Austin, I don't genuinely want him to get injured but if QPR are going to go down it probably needs Austin to miss half the season. Really good striker, very impressed with his movement and finishing with a few brilliant goals and several simple yet very well taken goals. Really want QPR to go down but with so many really awful teams a really good striker could easily keep QPR up.... unfortunately.

Well, again we couldn't hold onto a lead but a point against an in form team when we're down to the bare bones is a good result.

LIke I said, they get decisions wrong all the time, that picture, that is so easy to call right so it's unforgiveable to get it wrong. The City one I can just understand is one of the situations that is the hardest to call, would be nice if they got it right but I can understand it being called wrong.

That was quite ridiculous. 3 minutes of stoppage time when there should have been 5 or 6 and then the ref blows pretty much back on 3 minutes after Villa have wasted another minute and a half of the 3.

SAF isn't your manager, you don't get Fergie Time any more ;)

I can understand them both being called wrong, they make mistakes and aren't particularly amazing at their job, most decisions are pretty simple. If unsure are they supposed to give the attacker the advantage?

Anyway just another case for it to be video reviewable and take the mistakes/bias out of it :)
