8mil Chamakh, 14mil Gervinho, around 10mil on Podolski, 12mil on Giroud... the funny thing being, we could have just spent that all on one top notch player and been exactly where we are now. Arsenal won't address any of our weaknesses, Wenger will continue to overspend on crap players but think he's buying better quality because they cost more than a 5mil player he would usually buy. The difference is, he use to find under rated, under valued, top notch players and pay 5mil, now he's paying 2-3 times as much for guys who aren't undervalued or unknown.
Chelsea have already improved, Hazard in his first season almost matched Mata for goals/assists, and from what I can recall a huge number of Mata's assists and some goals have come via him being the freekick taker. Hazard will be better next year, as will Oscar, frankly I'd expect them to be very very strong next year, they strengthened but needed a bit of time to gel their attacking midfield players together, next year they'll add a striker who knows where the goal is. Spurs/Arsenal to fight it out, somehow I just don't see Liverpool being competitive, there isn't any reason their shouldn't be, their wage spend is insane for the squad size and some of that quality.
I think next year is Rodgers last chance, he needs two CB's, a LB, a winger and maybe a striker, if he buys well they could compete, if he doesn't they won't.
Bale's involvement is somewhat being over stated, sure he's scoring a lot, but someone kind of always does, thats just football. Last year Adebayor scored loads and assisted loads, other years other players do. If Bale doesn't play, someone else will and they'll get goals, Bale takes less shots, someone else will take more. If they sell Bale(which I'm not convinced of) they'll buy a striker and likely a winger also and they'll be looking for goal scoring ones.
Infact, I think if they sold Bale I can see Michu being made an offer Swansea can't refuse(we'll see if he can), maybe Benteke(but he says he's staying, again we'll see), while Villa is almost certainly a no go. This is a guy who is on 150k a week or more currently, is already WAY outside their wage structure and will be getting offers of 200k+ a week from Chinese, Qatar-(-ese, -ian?), Turkish, American clubs, and he would likely get offers from some bigger German clubs that can afford higher wages. I'd be very surprised if he came to the EPL and went to Spurs on significantly less than he's on now.
Look at Arsenal, RVP left, most people assumed we'd score less, same with Henry, and same with every other club losing a big scorer... yet the next seasons almost every time the team stays at the same level and goals get spread around or just one player has a huge season.
