Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 2nd September 2012]

Can Rodgers realy be stupid enough to move Carroll on and then replace him in the squad with Owen. He can't surely??

Even if we end up with Owen, which I think is highly unlikely, that was never the plan. As Rodgers said in his post-match press-conference, he wouldn't have allowed Carroll to leave had he known that we wouldn't sign a replacement however, at the time he was very confident that we would sign a replacement.

Fergie will never take Carrick off though.

And this is the problem, Fergie's ridiculous favouritism to some players will always hold us back, Carrick, Scholes (has he finally got the message?) and his new favourite Welbeck. None of them are good enough any more (Welbeck may be in the future but he certainly isn't ready to start)

I'm not saying he planned that, it's irrelevant, if he allows those events to unfold then he's a moron.

Chelsea who were just humiliated by Atletico, that Chelsea? :o

If we're going to go overboard on the basis of 3 games then Spurs are going to be relegated :p

well, it would've been boring if i'd only mentioned one team. chelsea did get a mighty reality check by atletico but the pl is a different kettle of fish.

There is no tactics on display at all. Valencia is the only attacking player that seems to have a role. Welbeck is sometimes up front, sometimes out left being **** at both. RvP has no supply at all, still managed to score. Cleverley is having to stay deep to cover for calamity carrick who has been the worse I've ever seen him, easily lost the ball 6/7 times without pressure in one half.

Kagawa has slipped a couple of times and again doesn't seem to have a clear role, sometimes he's been out left, sometimes in the middle. He hasn't clicked with RvP yet.

Kagawa is trying to find space because with Welbeck, Cleverley/Carrick making next to no dangerous runs, not running into space the defence/midfield can basically mark Kagawa out of the game, watch them pass it to Welbeck instead then stand still laugh and wait for Welbeck to run into them and lose the ball :p

Lampard is effective both because, if the defence is marking everyone else Drogba and co would move around the box leaving big gaps for Lampard to drive into, if there was no space, Lampard makes a run and space is created for someone else. RVP making a run on his own, Kagawa being marked out of where he wants to operate and zero other threat means marking even someone as good as RVP is easy. 1 striker against defence, difficult, add 2 midfield runners and you split the defence, spread them around, cause space, give RVP more space and have 2 more attacks also with more space.

You can't just sit back and you can't have no one running in from midfield, every successful team in the history of football has someone who will push into the box from midfield... and most teams did that while already having 2 strikers upfront. If the ball is on the left wing with Welbeck(assuming he could pass/cross) you want RVP in the box, Valencia running into the far post, a midfielder running across the defence creating space and then Kagawa would be able to drop just outside the box with loads of space.

When its just RVP, with Kagawa, there just isn't much threat.

CArrick is, and has always been at best, average. He's crap defensively and mediocre offensively, at his best for Spurs he played 20 yards further forward than he does for Utd and passed into the box. Where he is, he's useless.

How dare people think they know better than Fergie:mad:

You know nothing you are all(insert unwarrented insult and derogatory comments here).

;)

If Athletico were in this league Chelsea and maybe City would have a problem, however they aren't. I think Barca, Real, Athletico and Valencia would if moved to the EPL occupy the top 4 spots comfortably at this point.

It's no longer a situation where we're replacing Carroll with Owen or whoever. Carroll's gone and wasn't been replaced and we can't change that until January. Any decision to sign Owen or anybody else that's out of contract has to be taken in isolation and the only question that needs asking is (providing they sign on a short-term deal), are they better than nothing?

That's not me encouraging a return for Owen btw. If I was Ian Ayre, I'd phone Owen just to tell him that even we're not that desperate.

We are sooooooooooo **** today it is embarassing, we are being completely bossed by Villa of all teams. We can't even get the ball! trololololollllllllllllllll

Doesn't help when the ref has his **** painted purple and blue.
