Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 4th December 2017]

Here is an alternative image. This is when bellerin decides to lay his leg down. Does that look like a straight leg lunge? Pogba is half a stride away from him running at full pace when Bellerin moves. He has maybe a quarter of a second to react? Does that look like a guy who is jumping in to injure someone?

It's very easy to post a screenshot of the moment of impact and say "well he's jumped in with a straight leg" but if you actually watch the incident (not a slo mo slide by slide stretching of the second before contact) you can see that it's clearly an accident caused by one player running and the other player stopping and lying down to stop the ball.

Link? I don't remember the challenge

So other than dumb reasons like haircut you don't have a reason? Shouldn't people be innocent until proven guilty? I'm not surprised omnomnom has jumped to thinking Pogba is a murderer because well he has prior silly statements. But I'm genuinely disappointed that your first reaction baz is that pogba has gone in to injure him, that's a baffling reaction.

I don't even know the name of the Brighton player let alone have a link of the incident - we were discussing retrospective bans for diving and the challenge went in and I said that's the sort of thing that should be taken more seriously than diving.

I'm sorry I disappointed you Shami but I do suspect there was intent there. He's changed his stride for a reason, only he truly knows why but to me it looks like he's gone in to hurt Bellerin. Again, I have no idea why he would do it, sometimes players just do stupid things. He wouldn't be the first to do it - I can remember Gerrard intentionally leaving one on Boateng years ago, Barkley on Lovren last season was almost identical. I don't know, maybe it's just a bit of frustration at the ball running away from him.

So you think the ball running away from him would cause him to try and injure another player? Has he ever done this before? It seems like a bit of a leap to jump to.

You can clearly see his leg is straight though.

If people are genuinely going to sit here and say his leg wasn't straight and his studs weren't first with a straight face, i'm not really sure where else this discussion can go.

Tell me how can you make that judgement from the front? His leg could have a significant bend and appear straight from face on. Also, is 45 degrees now classified as studs up?

Sorry but we're into the realms of arguing the sky is green now, i'm just not going down that rabbit hole, if you can't even agree his leg is straight and his studs are first from those images then that's me out.

I'm convinced some people on here have never seen someone sprinting.

Look at that guy going studs first!! He's totally not just running /s
Shami!!!!! Come on!!!! You're being crazy now. He's stretching for the line for crying out loud :D Do you think that guy was sprinting like that for the full 100m? :D

This is now getting silly. This is up there with the time Frank tried to argue that a penalty that missed the target was "well placed" :D

You say we haven't seen someone run before, it's just part of his stride, it's not straight etc etc.

Watch it. He lunges at the end, it's not his normal running technique, and at no point was he in control of the ball.

I'd slow it down for you, but I just don't have the time.

Where did I say he was in control of the ball? It's a 50:50 ball, they both go in for it.

If you're having to slow it down and post photoshopped images to try and justify it as a lunge then it isn't a lunge.

Check out if you want but I'm not being awkward here. This to me is not straight. Whether this is material to the red card I can't say but there is a bend in his leg as far as I can tell.

All that says to me is he is going for the ball and the leg came down in the way. You cannot expect a player not to go for the ball.

Unfortunately the laws disagree. You can't go for the ball in a way that's like to put an opponent at risk.

Anyway, there's a football being played. Bournemouth have just taken the lead against Southampton.

And he didn't, how often do you see a defender go to ground like that in front of someone? I'd say that is a very unlikely occurrence so to me it's not likely to put an opponent at risk at all, it was a freak clash.
